daggerfall installation problems

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:10 am

hey guys,
i am up to the last part of the installation. i have just updated it and it says "type 'dagger' to start the game". when i typed dagger it said "error: looks like you have inserted the wrong cd. please insert your daggerfall cd and try again". it also said i was ver 1.0 when the update was meant to take me to ver 1.07.213. i would greatly appreciate it if you helped me. here is a screen shot of my problem i hope it helps. http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/yy289/belial61/mydfproblem.jpg

I think you didn't set the instalation size to huge just before instaling so then it has to access information from the disk which is not there.

I will take the opportunity and post my similar problem except that it won't install more than medium install because it says I don't have any room for a huge install(i still have 30GB)

If you followed the http://static.gamesas.com/downloads/games/daggerfall_legal_and_installation.pdf, the "wrong CD" error generally happen because of two reasons.
  • You're using an older version of DOSBox than 0.73, the solution is to download the latest release of DOSBox.
  • When you mount the CD in DOSBox, the "-label Daggerfall" part is case sensitive. You must write Daggerfall, not daggerfall or dAGGERFALL or anything else.

Yes, but that still doesn't fix the problem of not enough space. I understand it has something to do with " freesize 1000" bit but I've tried all possibilities and it still doesn't work.

When mounting your C drive (or the folder that you want to be the C drive in DOSBox), you need to add -freesize 1000 to the end of the command. "mount c c:\ -freesize 1000" for example

Hmm, I have the same problem as the above posters...however, I am trying to run the game on my old lap top (very old), which actually still has WIN 95 installed plus a DOS prompt program.

I haven't bothered to download and install the dos box program.

I have the whole game installed on my hard drive. When I open up the dos prompt window and type in CD C:/Daggerfall, it takes me to the next line C:/DAGGER - when I then type in DAGGER, I get the no cd comment.

Do I have to install dos box and DAG123.exe? Or is there another way? Is there a no cd patch available?

Thanks in advance.

You need to do what Freddo said, but using your regular DOS prompt instead of DOSbox.

You could try to unpack the dfinstall.zip file and then burn it to a CD and then use it on the laptop. Just let the DFCD folder be the root of the disc and be sure you give the burned disc the label "Daggerfall". Not "DAGGERFALL" or "daggerfall" or whatever, but "Daggerfall".

Then just run the INSTALL.EXE program from the disc, if you have a properly configured Windows 95, it should run Daggerfall without issues. The hardest part will probably be to get the sound to work, but hopefully your laptop got Soundblaster compatible hardware.
You need to do what Freddo said, but using your regular DOS prompt instead of DOSbox.

That won't work, the DOSBox guide use commands that are exclusive to DOSBox, like the MOUNT command.

Ahh, didn't think of that. I tend to think of using DOSbox as exactly like DOS, which is a bit silly, because it's not quite the same.
