[WIPz] Cybermen

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:20 am

I'll spare all the dev details.

there are 2 sets Cybermen outfit/helmet + Cybermen controller outfit/helmet. both use the same texture sheet and outfit model. the controller just has an little addon and a different helmet mesh. with added brain/glass dome covering. pretty optimized. < though i didn't spare poly, it's like 18k tris. plus another 3.5k for the head.

to do:
I am redoing the tubing on the undersuit. I didn't like the way it looked so.. yeah. scraqed. I have a new genius idea to make it look good.
need to rig the fingers, I was just testing the main forms of the rig. works really well. so far i spotted 1 single vertex i need to tweak. so that's good/easy :).
need dismemberment/caps. + figure out what to do with that pipboy arm. I think i know what I'll do for that.
still a lot of texturing to do. It's working pretty good though, if you like shiny metal suits :3. mainly tweaking spec maps + add grunge to crevasses. I might get away with leaving it without a env mask texture, if i did do one for it, it would need to be kinda big, half res of the final texture, 512x512 i suppose would do. I like occulsion in env masks< plus i want to try coloring them
I want to paint a custom env map as well.
think that's it really

probably 90% complete as of now.

Ha! This is great! I think I am more scared of the Cybermen than the Dialects, but I couldn't pass up this when it becomes available to download :D

I'm not sure if you stood by the original costume or added your own flair, but it seems like it was already in the Fallout universe. Futuristic but very retro. Nice job on it.

I'm pretty sure they were based off this model of Cyberman -

Pretty damn close. There are other models but they are more or less the same.

I imagine they seem retro because they were designed in the 60s, which fits in well in with the Fallout universe.

I decided i need to do robot like dismemberment caps for the limbs and head. only problem is that if it's on a regular human like race, then there will still be a great dirty blood spout happening at dismemberment. just pretend for now. :whistling:

Are you going to have a Robobrain style dismemberment for the head? You know, explosion of sparks & brain matter? That'd be awesome.

I'll look into that... If it was a custom race/creature probably straight forward ish. but you'll likely get the usual head expode/brain splat that happens on normal npcs if it's not creature/custom race. that's beyond the scope of an armor. < unless script wizardy can do it on an armor.

Very cool work. The style of it all fits well into the FO3 world, I think.

those are freaky good! LOL

too bad the new who ones aren't (apparently) allergic to gold. That'd probably be too scarce in fallout anyway. Definitely a monster to have though. I don't suppose anyone's working on Daleks? lol
