New Combat Ideas

Hello everyone,

New to the board. Wanted to float an idea around about a combat idea I had which I think would drastically change the dynamic of all forms of combat in Oblivion for the consoles, and RPG's in general. I would assume for this game they are still going with the spell wheel, which I find to be rather clunky and inconvenient in the heat of battle. Instead of that, I was thinking they could use the right stick to control all forms of combat attacks, and bind spells by category to the top buttons R1- Conjuration R2- Mysticism L1- Melee attacks L2- Restoration, something along those lines. The kind of spells/attacks would be controlled by the right stick, much in the same fashion that Fight Night controls different kinds of punches. That way you could hold R1 and use the right stick and perform about a dozen different spells, and can switch on the fly with the top buttons. The more difficult/higher level spells could be bound to more difficult right stick movements, and you could also have style attacks from the characters based on the stick movement i.e. move left the right stick character reels up for a lightning bolt or something on his left side, etc. The obvious problem as a result would be the loss of looking around during combat, but that could be easily fixed by being able to target and lock on to enemies say using X or the freeing up of the D-pad. I have been kicking this idea around in my head for a couple days and just wondering what everyone's thoughts were. Obviously they couldn't implement this for Skyrim, but I think in the future this is something that could be looked at and if executed properly, a total game changer in terms of Console RPG's. Feel free to discuss/critique.
