So do all cities have walls?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:29 am

Do all the major places in the game that are not side road small villages which I have massacred have walls? Bravil has doors in the lake but alas I cannot swim under all of them just one :(

I am able to, through the sewers, get into the city but that's no fun when you can only party it out in one building. And I don't feel like doing jail right now.

so.....am i screwed - is jail my only way? I know I have a thread on sneaking into the city but now lets investigate other towns in the game.

If you know a mod that provided "secret" entrances ill look at it -but I am mostly going vanilla (mostly meaning I already installed elsewere and hammerfell)

for those who live a life of crime what are your tricks, tips, ideas?

I want to still do missions and what not but at the same time I want to NOT go to jail

Anvil has a secret passage from thej Thieves Den (It is still there even if you don't have the DLC) that leads to the countesses quarters. Thats all I can think of.

I have all the DLC.

As a lot of you already know from my countless posts. I am studying the maps and looking for ways into the cities, towns and more.

Why not just go to jail?

Because this is more fun, make the game more of a challenge and lets me live the life I want the DB (dark brother hood) wanted me to join I did the first mission - killing whom I was suppose to - but I slaughtered the messenger after he came to me. I am still headed to my next destination. you see the life I live?

This is why I need to know of vanilla based ways into the towns and cities.

Yes. Welcome to the wonderful world of console limitations.

Maybe join the Theives Guild? They may have connections/ resources that could help you. Or do you mean to play without getting rid of your bounty?

He meant that the reason cities have walls was because the game was developed for the consoles. When making a multi-platform game, you have to develop for the weakest system, in this case the Xbox 360. That console doesn't have the power to stream cities in the same cell as the rest of Cyrodiil.

Hmm....

Being a PC player, you have access to several mods that convert vanilla Cyrodiil "closed" cities into "open" cities. Visit TES Nexus and search for Open Cities. I don't use an open city mod myself so can offer no insight. But they are quite popular. One, at least, is still being maintained and improved.

The Open Cities mods are worth checking out for their own sakes. I love them, they make Oblivion towns feel like Morrowind towns. It's great to be able to ride a horse right into a town. But I'm guessing that they may not help much in this case, as they are basically the same cities as vanilla. The main difference is that they're now part of the Tamriel worldspace. Because of the insanely high walls Bethesda placed around all the cities I think it would still be pretty impossible to get in or out without confronting guards.

There are several thief-oriented mods that address this issue:

I used the open cities mod with the exe that you have to use to launch the game (with out it the walls are gone but the city (town) entrance doors are non "invisible." the only city this didn't work on is imperial which is fine. it was meant to make it look more - realistic instead of having small towns with castles have walls every where. I can now slaughter and sneak into towns.

thanks for the tips
