Skin, Beautiful Skin

No. I'd like to be able to select those kinds of things during character creation, but I don't want my characters looks to ever be out of my control (vampirism/lycanthropy aside, of course).

I agree with this...alot on these forums think it's important how your character looks....and i agree :)
I would like to decide whether i want scares tattoo's etc.

My first reaction is hell no. Only in character customization.

However, if implemented properly (not like the first fable) scars could be very awesome. Though I know most people wouldn't want it so might as well keep it in character creation only.

yea, but only stuff we apply ourselves, if someone wants a character with clean skin all the time, he/she should be allowed to have that

As long as it's only a small chance of happening and not completely over-the-top like in Fable, this would be cool.

By the end of Fable, your character is a walking mass of scar tissue and glowing tattoos D:

No, I don't want to receive scars throughout the game. I would like the ability to add scars, tattoos, or other markings during character creation. After that my character stays the same. Don't mess with him or her. A lot of thought and work goes into creating their perfection I don't want them to get messed with. Especially with my haphazard play-style, they would end up looking like one big nasty scar! :yucky:

Pretty much sums it up for me as well.......it would get ugly fast!

Altmers needs more beautiful skin. In the describtion of them it said they had almost "golden" skin.

If the altmer are any more golden skinned than they were in oblivion they'll light their surroundings on fire.

How on earth does a healing spell restore you from near death if it can't heal a scar? Unless there's something like the vile scars of D&D it would feel weird. Having them at character creation to get if you want and giving your own explanation on why the scar persists sounds the best approach.

My thoughts exactly.

Ah, Hellmouth, we meet again. Outlander won't be here to save you this time! ...See Outlander's sig.

...Aside

Granted, scarring ingame after precious hours creating your character can be a horrible thought, ruining your work, and for the most part, I agree.

But consider this.

During an epic boss fight with a dragon, and after your grueling efforts you manage to slay it in a cinematic, totally awesome way, but it manages to slash your face, leaving a scar running vertically over your left eye. That, for example, would be badass. A proper war trophy, marking your successful kill. And if this was commented on by the AI in-game, adding to your reputation, your description, your legend, that would be cool. Now having the option to allow these events to happen would be even better, but the method in which this happens would be difficult. So far the idea that if a wound is 'left untreated for X amount of time' it will leave a scar has the most merit, or perhaps you can only gain scars from particularly important battles with a sworn enemy.

The key point I'm trying to make here is that something like a scar is a part of your character development. Sure, it's not what you'd envisioned when you made your character, but events change and happen in ways we can't predict. I think in that respect a scar would be pretty cool.

No, except for things that you add in character creation, you should not gain scars and such from battle or disease. I take time to create an awsome looking character and do not want it to be ruined because I get struck a few times during the game. This type of system was tried in the original Fable and I hated it there as I will hate it if its included in Skyrim. Leave my beautiful character alone. If it is included I will be both annoyed and frustrated....then I will be forced to play as a mage to insure my character does not end up looking like he's been through a meat-grinder after 10hrs of gameplay.

Your character will be frustrated in 60 years when he's dead and buried. Oh look at me.

I wouldn't mind scars as long as I can visit a beauty shop and treat them, as well as change parts of my other appearance. Hell, even growing hair and facial hair. Just visit the hair stylist to cut or change your hairstyle. Doing your hair would just be one of them small things that adds depth to the game, and not something you'd do a lot so it wouldn't be a problem. As for facial hair, just give a nord a scythe and a bucket of mead and observe nordic magic :D

I wouldn't want permanent scars on my character (and restoration allows for no scarring to make sense), but temporary changes would be great.

However, if spending all day traveling outdoors gives the player character a temporary tan or diseases other than vampirism change the way we look, it'd be neat.

By the time you got to lvl 50 you would look like crispy torn up meat bag, the occasional scar would not be bad, but i dont want burn marks.

Maybe if it’s temporary.
I think it would be cool if after an epic fight our character was covered in burns and cuts, but after a rest or two these should go away.

Yeah scars would be bad [censored]. I'm still waiting for them...ugh....
But when we get them they better be good. They gotta be cuts FIRST and slowly turned into scars.
Fable was so [censored]... No cuts or damage just instant-scars.

Preferably dismemberment will be in also. And your character will be able to get arms and legs chopped off and survive (if they stop bleeding in time.)
Peg legs, prothsthetic arms, robotic dwemer artifact limbs, and magically regrown/summoned limbs would be possible too.

So...Sweet....

No he won't, he will be dead! :teehee:

In any event, my point was that when I play a fantasy game I'd rather have a great looking character then a character that would eventually devolve into a mess of scars and such. I wouldn't go so far as to say it will be game breaking, just that I will be throughly disapointed since my ability to roleplay will be lessened. How can you be a swave good looking pirate, a dashing knight, etc. if the character all of a sudden has 20scars decorating his face and body?

I am not opposed to making scars an option in customization since that will allow you to roleplay as that type of character, but when I don't want to role play as an rough-and-tumble scars all over bandit I would rather not have scars all over. Just my opinion, hope that all makes sense.

And for those saying "just don't get hit," I say, come-on! archers will hit you eventually and if your a knight you will get into close-quarters combat from time to time and get hit. It's inevitable.

I don't see why such things can't be toggled much like hardcoe Mode in New Vegas.

The game makers are going to have an overall idea of what they (and the players on the forum) want the "default" game experience to be. If you want to customize certain things, it wouldn't be difficult for them to add a menu list to choose from.

Personally, I think at least being given the option to scar, lose limbs, lose an eye, have your sword hewn in two, get holes in your armor, etc. would be an excellent optional experience.

Some players are going to whine about this of course, though the option to take the pansy route will always be available to them via the menu.

It's not as if everything done to you has to be permanent. In a world of magic, a healer could readily reattach (or regrow?) any lost body parts or completely remove any scars. A smith in a smithy could repair damage done to weapons or armor that you can't simply hammer out on the road. The concept, however, allows you to play in a much more badass manner. Tell me, who here wouldn't love to face off against a large bearded bear of a man with a giant axe, and as he rushes at you, an immediate cutscene plays depicting his axe slicing off your arm and embedding itself in stone. Unable to retrieve his axe, but already writing you off as dead, he turns away, only to be beaten into unconsciousness by you, wielding your own severed arm as a club.

What kind of person doesn't long for such an experience? (Answer: Pussies.)

On a related note regarding gradual character model modification and whatnot, I'd love to have my powerful wiking beard grow down to my knees throughout my journeys in TES: V. They're basing the game in Skyrim... if they don't give daddy some delicious beards and possibly manly chest hair, they're not doing the Norse justice.

I agree with most here saying that it should be a option in character creation like a select box that if ticked you can receive scars. However I don't want it to be if you get hit many times you walk away fine, should at least be realistic and stagger away, be bloody etc until you heal or wait.

I want bite marks from my ill-fated trip through Valenwood. I was ambushed by a bunch of brushmokey Bosmer freaks, knocked out, and after they thought I was dead started to nibble on me. The biting woke me up promptly and I throttled them all with my bare hands. Orc's are tough like that you know.
