Maybe reading previews isn't a good idea?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:04 pm

I have been thinking of stop reading this forum and stop reading previews, listening to podcasts and so on. The reason is, I have a feeling it kind of spoils the game a bit, and I hate having parts of the story spoiled. Do you think you'd enjoy Skyrim more if you knew nothing about it in advance?

I voted yes, i loved the articles, but sometimes they spoiled too much stuff, like when they told you how you get to know that you're Dragonborn.
I loved the screenshots and combat articles though, and I will still enjoy the game a lot (I think).

Same. I wish I had a stronger will but I don't. I have a very weak will. I'm like a sponge, need to read everything that's out there.

If I went in blind expecting stuff that got pulled, I think it would be worse.

I believe people have a need to know things,it's just part of us...like an automatic behavour if you will.
Not to mention the popularity of the game,i need to know,i want to know.
I like evreything i've read or heard so far, apart from maybe auto-targeting,but i don't think that will be as bad as i feared.
And it will certainly not stop me buying this game, nothing will.
Since morrowind and oblivion, this has been my number one game on any list, and will continue to be.

Everyone's different. Spoilers don't really bother me. I had the ending of Red Dead Redemption spoiled the DAY it came out. I had it sitting unopened on my desk and some [censored] bag posted the ending in the comments of a Achievement Hunter video for it.
That didn't stop me from still being a little shocked and enjoying it though

So, in short: Depends on how you are. I personally will read all the information I can because it doesn't bother me.

No. I'm not a raging pessimist, so reading everything I've read so far has not made me unhappy.

No - I'm sure even if I read every scrap of info Beth gives out (and I will, believe me), they're not going to reveal everything. By the time it's released, I won't be on the forums/internet where I might have major things spoiled, as I'll be off playing it! :twirl:

No. You should not enjoy the game because your suprised to find out features, you should play it because it has good features. The only thing that would ruin playing it on release, is playing it a bunch before release.

Hrm, I was a bit undecided how to vote here. Ended up going with no though. If, for example, we get some preview saying how there are joinable werewolf clans in the game then sure that would be spoilt as it would no longer be a surprise. It would however have my interest and thus I'd play through the game actively looking for said werewolves so I could play how I wanted to as soon as possible. So yes, it spoils the surprise, not the enjoyment of experiencing it myself though and in some cases could probably even make things more enjoyable though I don't have any examples of the top of my head. :teehee:

YesNo :P. You're probably right overall, but how are we to give suggestions if we have no idea of where Beth is heading? Unless you don't give suggestions or think that Beth doesn't listen to most of them anyways, of course.

The real spoiling will happen when looking for mods on the forums though... I ended up spoiling about every Oblivion quest line I hadn't done yet just by browsing mod descriptions.

I would have enjoyed the original Fable more if there weren't any cancelled promised features.
I might enjoy Skyrim more knowing the cancelled expectant features (spears especially.)
