Sutch

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:22 am

From what i have gathered from topics on here, google searches and in-game. Sutch was a city of Riches, Theives and Nature.

In many places i found the Sutch was reckoned to be the second richest city, rival only by Skingrad. It had weatlh from trades between the Imperials and the Redguards. As it was on the main road to Hammerfall it had many merchants that would travel though, of which would bring exsotic treasures with them.

Because of this weatlh, Sutch was also a city of thieves. It should have been a major stronghold for the Gray Fox, and with all the Merchants and Rich coffers would have provided many riches.

Lastly, it is believe that they worshiped Kynareth, who is often seen as a godess of nature. Therefore, and because they where rich, Sutch would have been a very beautiful city, with parks and flora.

Now my question. Is this decription accurate? If so, whats wrong?

I always imagined it to be the oppposite, to be a run down city rife with thievery and gangs, and as far as we know they might not worship any god.

I could find only one in-game source (http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/thief_virtue.shtml) and one obscure text (http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/viveccyrus.shtml) that mentions Sutch. Here's what seems to follow:

1. Sutch is a city in Hammerfell.

2. Sutch seems to have been the capitol of a barony, having both a baron and baroness at times.

3. Sutch went for at least 450 years without having a Thieve's Guild presence.

It appears that "Fort Sutch" is not the city of "Sutch" due to discrepencies in location. (However, Battlehorn Castle near the Cyrodiilic city of Chorrol seems to have once been in the Lainlyn kingdom of Hammerfell as well.)

Before oblivion came out it was in Cyrodiil. And it was only moved cause they ran out of time to make it (or some other reason similar reason)

3. Sutch went for at least 450 years without having a Thieve's Guild presence.

that is how long the known thieves guild throughout the empire has been gone (although it hasnt, just moved underground)

anyone have an idea on what their symbol might have been?

I'd be interested in seeing those sources because almost everything we know about Sutch is that it was a dot on the Red Gaurd map.

Would Sutch have been in Oblivion it's assumed to have had a temple to Kynareth only because Kynareth doesn't have a temple in the game. However this is no longer reasonable to assume as Knights of the Nine shows that her worshipers like to be outside.

Everything else seems to be speculation.

No, Battlehorn Castle was built by one of the exiled Knights of the Horn after the events of Daggerfall (or something roundabouts) back in Cyrodiil. It's never moved.

I believe that dot on Redguard's map, along with another dot an early pre-release map of Oblivion and a roughly circular depression on the heightmap is all we have.

(Also, I can't help but wonder. Sutch is just a city that was not made due to time/resource restraints and the already present overurbanisation of the surrounding area. What is really so interesting about it to have a new thread every week?)

Aye. You are right, as shown in http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/dlc_battlehornchronicle.shtml.

It's posible that the Barony of Sutch extended into Cyrodiil, with the outpost of Fort Sutch.

And also, there's a refernce to Sutch in the pre-Redguard comments, of the "Red Dragon of Sutch", or something similar.

It was planned to have a fighter's guild, which was changed (you'll get Journal Messages of Azzan being in Sutch, rather than Anvil) obviously when they canceled the production of Sutch.
