Hey everyone, I need to find 2 critics of my essayist and write about them. My essayist is George Bernard Shaw and Im having trouble finding critics of his works. Critics of either his essays or plays will be just fine.

Thanks.

Isn't this technically cheating if someone else does your research for you?

This ^

Also you might want to becareful since teachers are computer savy in this age. Seen several incidents where college students and HS students got an F in class cause they tried to get someone online to do their work for them.

its not cheating since you are not writing the essay and the teacher said "use any available source." I have found some critics but they are only small excerpts and the site wants me to buy their stuff and i dont want to do that.

I don't know any particular names, but maybe research responses to his anti-war material (which I believe drew a lot of criticism before or during WW1 and WW2). There's got to be something article-worthy from those times, and it's just as contentious an issue today as it was then.

If you didn't wait to the last minute you could always ask your teacher to switch authors due to a lack of material. If your teacher he or she should let you start work on another author.

The best place to start is always Wikipedia.

Most instructors will not allow you to use Wikipedia as a source (nor should they allow it), but it gives you links to other websites/articles/books/resources that will allow you to dig deeper into your chosen topic.

Where are you looking for these critics? I'll go out on a semi-limb and assume that your teacher wants two separate critics--does she want full books of criticism (by a single author), or will a single article/paper (per critic) do?

You really should have no trouble finding literary criticism of Shaw's works, particularly the plays. He's one of the better known playwrights of his era, and one of the best known Irish playwrights, period. The real trouble is knowing where to look. I really recommend going to your local library and talking to one of the librarians there. Ask them if they have access to any of the following:

- books of criticism on Shaw available in-house (I assume this is a project that's due soon, so inter-library loan's out of the question)
- JSTOR
- Project Muse
- any other online database containing articles/journals of literary criticism I may have forgotten about since I've left college.

JSTOR and Project Muse especially are treasure troves when it comes to looking for criticism of even the most obscure authors (or the more obscure works by well-known authors), but you need a login to access the full article texts. Usually that's provided by your university, since these databases are most often used at the college-level. But I'm guessing you're in high school or thereabouts...? In that case, check with your library; they may have access to those sites, or if not, they should know of another database they/you can access instead.

In a really epic pinch you could try http://scholar.google.com/, but I'd try the library/JSTOR/etc. route first, myself.
