I'd like to know some things about Argonian hist-naming and Argonian naming in general. And i would also like to know if there is a translator. I've been playing this char called 'Draws-Blades-faster' with the Argonian name 'Shaj-Rei'. I just made it up for rp purposes, but now i'd like to know if there is a connection between a name like 'Draws-Blades-Faster' and 'Shaj-Rei'. Would D-B-F be a translation of S-R, or are they independant names, one for, well, a name and the other a discription of the person? If it is a translation, what would D-B-F translate to? Please help me out.

Well, at least some (I would call them) common names are given to them by others. Hauls-Rope-Faster in Anvil was named such by his peers because they could not pronounce his real name; it goes to say that his is descriptive and not a translation.

I always wondered that my self, never could figure out how they translated names.

I am inclined to think that some of the Argonian names (at least those in Morrowind) are actually reflections of their original names. For example names such as "Travelling-New-Woman", "Breech-Star", "Dreaded-Water", "Morning-Star-Steals-Away-Clouds" and "Only-He-Stands-There" seem unlikely as a given name, but sound more like a cumbersome translation of their original name.

(Which, by the way, is a lot more appealing than the current fashion of giving Argonians "cool" names like "Kills-With-Bow".)

There is a small little quest in Morrowind in Suran at the house of earthly delights where,the guy at the slave market has some insights on translations,it is not much but it may be a good starting point,for a few letter translations,then perhaps a code could be made from there observing other names.Could be interesting research.

Well, from what he tells you, the only things you can now translate is Hides-His-Eyes.

I think havign your intelligence over 70 or 80, or being an Argonian, you translate Hides his Eyes to Haj-Ei or something... also found in Suran.

Haj Ei, is shockingly close to the name of your character Shaj Rei.
