I don't care too much about the spears myself, but I'm glad to see some major re-works to the combat system (hopefully in a more stable way)

The last perk for blade in oblivion was a thrust move, with a chance of paralyzing the enemy...you can't say that wasn't a thrust.
Plus they have reworked combat and made it more intense, with much better animation.
I'm also interested about the staff too,it should be a combat weapon, aswell as it firing magic.

Hmm, I don't believe the animations are changed by the perks. I do know that the forward power attack was a swing, the back was a swing too, but notably more defensive. Deadly reflex makes you stab forward, but I could be wrong. I did play Nehrim recently and I believe the animations were unchanged being I used a clean install for it. Now i use a modified forward power attack that lets me run forward a notable distance before swinging.

The forward power attack at 100 blade skill was a thrust,NOT a swing.
Did you get your blade skill to 100 at all?
I play on xbox, therefore i have no mods.

woah, calm down. I never did the whole xbox thing, the PC was more user friendly, and there are differenced between the console and the PC. And like I said, its been a long time since I played an un-modded version of oblivion. And yes, i have gotten any and all skills to 100. I just don't enjoy the consoles for games made by bethesda, they are generally better on the PC for customization reasons (and the graphics are generally slightly higher quality. I also have access to a lot of content you never used, some of which was actually the basis for some of Skyrim's combat updates.

If anything close to spears were in the game todd would have mentioned them instead of the embarrassing "Sorry" that he had to say in the video

I think game informer made spears out to be more high on demand than what people want... I would imagine people to care more about things like mounts, werewolves, dual wielding (funny how big of a topic this was untill it was announced that we get dual wielding and now everyone doesn't care.... this was HUGE in oblivion back in the day.)

Not having spears isn't a big deal for me, but it's a shame that they aren't going to be included. Makes no sense at all really. Bethesda prolly just said no 'cause they can.

well Mr. Todd said that they are not in in the "traditional" sense,

depending on what that means I will reserve my judgement until more knowledge is acquired, I got angry at first BUT, we just to have to wait and see.

the stuff about removing spell making made my day to be honest so it soothed my burning evil anger a bit :P

magic seems to be getting the best overhaul and this pleases me to no ends because I'm a caster in practically every game. :flamethrower:

Spears are ESSENTIAL in Skyrim.

Skyrim is the land of the Nords.

Vikings.

Vikings LOVE spears.

Therefore, Skyrim needs spears.

Actually it's been a disappointment since oblivion for many people. Not a spear person myself but I don't think they are keeping spears out to be beligerrent (they do know how badly it was wanted). The most likely scenarios are that they didn't have the technical savvy to implement spears into the new combat system while retaining balance. The other is that they had nowhere to fit spears under the new "perk" system(wich is the new addition that worries me the most) due to more "streamlining" of the skills system. IF thrown weapons are in the game there is the possibility that javelins and light spears would be under that group. Wich may fall under Howards "spears are not in the game under the classical sense" comment.

I know spears were desired since their release as powerful weapons back in Morrowind. I think the biggest appeal about spears isn't from the Morrowind era where they were overpowered but more on the RP'ing aspect. Its hard to play a spear wielding viking or a Khajiit tribal from Elsweyr without spears. They could also offer a different playing style to change up the gameplay. All the same, we have to wait until 11/11/11 to get our hands on the game x.x hope the dev team can keep us up to date on everything so we can get an idea of what they are doing for Skyrim. I love the magic re-work, some may complain, but back in Morrowind you couldn't be working with a weapon to use magic, so its not too out there.
