Elvern culture in skyrim

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:15 am

i wonder how much of the game will feature elven objects and locations, since elvern/ayleid ruins was a major part as one of the best dungeon designs due to its traps, looks, items and lore.
ive seen how most people talk about starting off as a nord for immersion/skyrim relativity, but ive always preferred elves and they probably will play some part, but what exactly do you think it will be?

considering how you get a choice of 3 different elf races, they are definitely varied (even more varied with the upgraded character designer), and have quite alot of lore behind them. such as altmer, bosmer, dunmer, dwarfs and ayleids.
im dont understand the elven history of skyrim much, but i would like to see your opinions and informations on the subject.

There's confirmed dwemer ruins, we might see some falmer stuff, but honestly, to quote the Daleks Elves are "superior in only one respect. They are better at dying. RAISE COMMUNICATION BARRIER!"

According to one of the magazines, there's a Dunmer city.

Wow. I thought it was a typo in the title but you seem to really think it's spelled that way.

It's elven. No 'r'.

Anyway, I doubt there will be much sign of the Ayleids at all in Skyrim. Skyrim has THE DWEMER. As cool as the Ayleids seem, Dwemer are way cooler.

Ayleids were also centered entirely in Cyrodiil. They weren't called heartland high elves for nothing.

Mer = Elves and yes I expect Dwemer and Falmer to be in Skyrim further enhancing the mer (Elven) lore.

sorry, about the typos i was hurrying this post.
and i know about the dwemer stuff in skyrim, but ive personally never associated drawfs or their technology to be elven.
i love the design of the concept elven armour and would be happy to see at least some small influence in the game similar to that style. because in oblivion the elven armour didn't match any objects, ruins or locations so it didn't feel as immersive.

Not all of them were killed by Alessia though, some were just ran out. It's not entirely impossible that a few retreated to Skyrim and left something to be discovered there.

Why not? Is something wrong with their pointy ears, average height, beards, and incredible Tonal Architecture?

@Velorien, we know what happened to the Ayleids. They were either assimilated under Alessia's new order or fled and were assimiliated by the bosmer and other Altmer. Alessia didn't wipe them out, but she still destroyed them. Culturally destroyed them, that is.

The dwarfs in TES are elves, i would like to see some culture, but not ruins.

hehe, its justs dwarfs are a totally different characteristic from elves, generally in fantasy terms.
i cant exactly change the idea of dwarfs that bethesda have made and its good that they have their own ideas rather than typical fantasy style and reasons explaining their origins. i just prefer to see regular elven cultured/themed stuff be in the game enough for me to have a good enough immersion for the elven races playable in the game.

I agree that the elven equipment didn't really match up to the ayleids ruins, but to be fair they were just ruins... Concrete and Varla and Welkynd Stones were basically the only things that stood out for me. Still the white gold tower was a better preserved Ayleid Structure and didn't really reflect with the armor which happened to be pretty much gold. Anyway, at some point in the most recent podcast Todd explains how things look a lot better when he is asked if people who enjoyed fallout 3 will enjoy Skyrim and not Morrowind or Oblivion.

I see, I hope that a Dunmer will have dunmer furniture etc. and that you can see the cultures, but the only elves I can think of in Skyrim (except dwemer) are the falmer, and we don't even know what happened to them, and the lore says that there are no traces of them, even though i hope for some.

YOu know, Alyeid ruins are thousands of years old, but that elven armor? probably newer.

You do realize they are Mer, right? They come from the same exact line that Altmer and Dunmer do. They're only called 'Dwarves' because of the ones who started it were Giants, if I remember correctly. But they are Elves, there is no technically, or for simplicity or anything. They are Elves, strictly.

Elven weaponry and armors will be there... trade does it for people.
The only elven culture in the game will be a Dunmer (Dark Elven) City... it is Winterhold if I remember correct... or some other eastern city that starts with a W.

May be The Scholar that went from Solstheim to Skyrim in search of the Falmer could somehow have a story in Skyrim , may be his research coudl be uncovered and something lead to prosecute that search ...
A third theory considers that there is also the possibility that genocide was committed upon the Falmer, and if so, likely by the Nords during aggressive wars for territory. A scholar who traveled to Solstheim (circa Nerevarine) in search of these elusive beings uncovered proof of their existence. He left for Skyrim, where he thought he might find more about this people.

from the wiki ...

Meh. Dev's are lazy. There's nothing to connect the vast majority of OBlivion's elven armor with the Ayleids.

Except for the fact that the Ayleid Guardians wearing elven armor?? Lets not forget that Ayleids are just descendants of Aldmer which are basically Atmer (High Elves).

Hopefully the Falmer are developed. Doesn't have to be the level of Dwemer in Morrowind or Ayleids in Oblivion, but give us something, please.

yeah, it would be good to have things like stories, quests, lore, items and locations to give more of a connection to things such as the elven armour. so they dont seem as out of place as like in oblivion.
