Perception in 360?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:22 am

So I am standing on a high pile of rocks taking in the scenery when I notice my health is dangerously low from my last Mutie Fight... so just about the time I start to heal myself a Death Claw comes up behind me and, just like that I am gonners. Scared the brown gravy outa me to boot. Heh, heh.

Wow... does that ever annoy me... anybody seen a mod around that gives a guy radar perception in a full 360 degree circle?

That, I think, wold be highly useful.

If there is no such mod you could try wearing the talking power armor. It will alert you whenever an enemy is nearby regardless, but you do need to have power armor training to equip it (either from progressing far enough in the MQ or from completing Operation: Anchorage).

If you want more information about the armor, here is a http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Prototype_medic_power_armor.

The mod "More Perks" includes a Pipboy Upgrade perk basicly adds that effect to you at all times, so it applies stimpacks and med-X on its own, as well alerting you to hostiles!!

It requires at least 60 in repair I think.

Not to sound sarcastic but can you do it in real life? It'd scare the "brown gravy" out of me if I looked at the back of your head and noticed you could stair right back at me 0_0

Sure you can, you don't need eyes in the back of your head to sense something approaching from behind. I'm sure most people can hear a lumbering beast approaching from behind, see an unusual shadow cast on the floor, and such. I do it all the time at work. Sometimes I can easily hear people approaching, sometimes I have to rely on the reflections of certain objects around me to track their movements. Or even if they do sneak up on me I notice that my area sounds stuffier and perhaps feels warmer, probably because the person's body is insulating the heat and sound in the area.

Of course, FO3 isn't exactly a simulation, so you probably wont hear a Deathclaw coming or see a dynamic shadow cast across the ground. That's where the perception/radar indicator comes in.

Yeah, that kind of annoys me. I can understand someone sneaking up from long distance and shooting at me, but I should be able to hear a deathclaw or super mutant charging me from behind.

You could probably edit the FOV (field of view) in the .ini file if you truly wanted full-on 360 perception, though it'd probably look really bloody weird unless you also happen have a really really wide monitor and a decently capable rig.

Well that bring up another idea. But yes. I suppose if you wanted to. You could have multiple monitors and each their own video card. That way you could tweak your ini and have literally a 360 field of view.....would it freak the game out. More than likely make its head explode. But try it. I am curious lol

mmm neat.

More perhipheral vision would be nice. Do I have the cash for 2 more monitors tho hehe

Followers can be good at alerting you to things charging from behind ;)
