Sea Ventures

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:51 am

Imagine, being on a boat. A boat filled with fellow vikings. You are the captain and you are heading towards an island. There is said to be treasure on this island, but on the way there you meet up with another boat. A war emerges.

Wouldn't that be great? Wouldn't it be great to venture at sea's?

What do you think?

A boar? At sea? I don't think it would be much of a battle, but sure, why not.

Seriously though, while it would be pretty cool, I think I'd be SO annoyed after the first couple of times I tried to jump aboard the enemy shipped, missed and hit the railing, and fall into the ocean with no way of getting up, that I'd just never do it again.

I really don't think that Skyrim is going to have much to do with the oceans - the setting is in the mountains.

It might be cool at some point to implement ship mechanics into the game, but I don't think we will see it this time.

I feel like people are starting to confuse the Nords with real life Vikings... is this still TES?

The Nords may not be vikings, but you wouldn't think they were that much different put side by side until you talked to them indepth.

Imagine, being on a boat.

Imagine? Pshh, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7yfISlGLNU
Couldn't help myself :P

I remember back in my day I swam all the way to Solstheim from Vvardenfell. I don't need no confounded boats.

I really did do that just to see if the game would let me. Best part? I didn't think to create a swift swim spell. :lmao:

The sea venturing is only an idea for the devs, lol. Buy, anyhow, it's too late posting ideas, I think. The devs are now making the final polishing. It's only 9 months and 10 days til Skyrim, you know.

Vikings are epic, though. And I know "epic" is a overused word, but I'll be using it anyway. Anyhow...

Skyrim is set in Skyrim, a diverse environment that not only includes mountains, but tundras, rivers and lakes, and a coastline to the north.

Longboats exist in TES, I don't see any reason why the Nords wouldn't use them. The structures, the armor, and culture in general are all based heavily on the Vikings. I am positive we will see longboats.

I think it would be great to be able to use them, in realtime. I'm not really all that interested in having a battle at sea, but being able to sail up the rivers and along the coast would be a very cool experience.

I reckon a one of kind seaquest, like the one in Oblivion would be cool, this time instead of Mutiny on the Bounty it could involve...

A Storm, A Sea Serpent Attack, A lost island, sort of like a Viking Odysse.

well Syrim does have a coast and some large rivers.but i dont think that they'll have boats in skyrim.i mean sure there is a coast...but thats about it.some glaciers too though.but really even if there was any boats you couldnt really do nothing much. so yes boats would be cool but i really doubt they'll be in game

Well instead of an active, always accesable coast with boats, maybe Sea Venturing could be part of a quest or just simply used as a transport aid.

Just what I was thinking. Nords can be inspired in vikings, but they are not the same. They have an own culture, they are different.. and they are mixed with Conan (CROOOOOM!!!!). As long as I love viking culture, I would be dissapointed if Nords are a copy-paste of them.
