Thats really hard to do, and that he's even given so many interviews is unprecedented. Really, I think we've been seeing more from the developers and more insight into their decisions than we did for Oblivion by a wide margain..But sometimes it doesnt seem to translate that well, especially without being able to communicate with voice tone (this is text only, after all) and body langugae (the podcast is jsut audio, after all.)
My point is to just take a breath, and calm down. Like I said when it was on the way, the only real reason people wouldnt enjoy Oblivion was they were comparing it to Morrowind. I have full confidence in the team, I think they are putting as much thought and heart into this as we are, and I think they take it just as seriously. He was right that you can't simply rely on your installed base...That leads to stagnation. But I have seen *nothing* to show that Todd, or anyone at bethesda, is at all ignoring our discussions, or is simply waving us off.
They are even addressing most of the fundamental complaints, like stiff animation and restrictive engine. I mean think about it, they're building an engine *wholly designed* for use in an Elder Scrolls game. Im honestly thinking we're going to see something really special. And for now, I will continue making my suggestsions, like spears (I love spears), and pointing out where we really don't need something (Throwing weapons, cant go nearly as fast as arrows, and that Mercantile and Speechcraft should be combined primarily.) But I am certain that so long as we don't try to wedge skyrim into a model set in an earlier ES game, we'll be fine.
I ask you, is any elder scrolls game anything like any other elder scrolls game? You can download the first two from Bethesda, so you can quickly see that they've expanded and morphed the elements many times, and I think, to a very good, very different end each time.
Im as stoked as ever for its release, and I just do not like seeing a repeat of the rabbling last time. Keep posting your opinions, we are a part of the community after all. But give these guys SOME credit. Todd did design Morrowind and Oblivion after all. I think that alone is all you need to remember to give them benefit of the doubt.
