Invisible Quest using dosbox

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:40 am

Alright, so I've recently re-installed Daggerfall using doxbox v.072
I've patched the game to v213 and I'm using the no-cd trick

I started a new character, joined the FG and went on my first quest to kill a spider, or something.
I get to the location, and I can't find it.
I can hear it, and i can get hit by it but I can't see it, click on it, or attack it.

Now, I haven't been active on the forums for a while, so I can't really recall all the details, but as best as I can remember, someone figured that the invisible quest item bug was related to how your hard drives/partitions were setup.

I've got 3 hard drives, 2 internal, and one external that i usually keep plugged in and turned on.
I've tried removing the external hard drive, but it has no effect.

The one internal HD, is 80 gig and formatted as one fat 32 drive.
Te other internal drive is a 40 gig , and contains an 18gig NTFS drive, an 18gig EXT3, and a 2 gig linux swap partition.

I've tried playing using DOSBox 0.72 under Windows XP and under Ubuntu 8.04 and the same thing happens wither way.

So . . .does anyone know of a fix or a work around for this issue or am I boned?

To attack a enemy you most hold your right mouse button and drag your mouse around. Based on the direction you drag your mouse you will swing your weapon in different ways.

its stuck in a wall, fairly common. annoying.

just wait till the quest expires, and you can get a new one.

sorry :(

I've been playing Daggerfall, on and off, for almost 5 years now. I've also been playing Arena, and Battlespire for the same amount of time. I know how to attack.

I would have thought that too, except for the fact that the fscking thing follows me around :swear:

I misread your first post, so I thought you said that you didn't know how to attack and that the enemy was stuck in the wall, what to do about stuck enemies I have no idea of, so I responded to the first thing based on what I misread. However, after now having reviewed your first post I see that I was far off with my answer.

Never happened to me. My only advice: Cast an area spell near it in hopes it'll die from the spell's blast radius. It's what I had to do when I somehow landed ontop of a harpy the other day.

I'm a fighter, so I haven't got any spell points.

Also, if the quest item is invisible for this quest, i can only assume they will be invisible for all quests. So even though I can work around it for this quest, I still need to solve the root issue.

I normally play on a P2/233 in true DOS, but I tried it on this system with DOSBox 0.72 and after sending my character over and playing for two hours, the dozen quests I did worked just as well as they do on my real DOS system. Maybe the spider is invisible on purpose? Have you tried doing another quest to verify that the goals are invisible on all quests??
