DaggerFall - Silver armor

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:06 pm

Just curious. Has anyone ever gotten all 3 suits of metal armor all in silver? Essentially its similer to elven but without the gold embroidering.

Just curious if anyone was ever crazy enough to succeed. Usually people outlevel its loot listing long before getting more then a few pieces. I should probley load up an old save game and see how many pieces I managed to get.

silver? does that come before or after elven? cause my lvl 2 charater already has full elven, but has never encountered silver armour.

I have gotten one full matching suit. I've never heard of anyone else doing as much as that, although maybe they just don't like to brag as much as I.

Silver armor is always a possibility. I don't believe there is a particular level at which it becomes more accessible like the other materials. Silver is so blasted rare it's hard to say.

If I recall it goes Leather, Chain, Iron, then it could either be steel or silver, not sure. But definatly before Elven. Luck might also have a play in it (both the stat and random chance) I wonder if that might be a way to get a full suit. Damage luck down to 20 or below.

Oh and are you sure your wearing full elven? Some pieces might be silver. You cant always tell, their sometimes unmarked but you can tell from the + rating. Think Elven was +5 and Silver was +4 Not positive though, its been awhile.

Steel and silver armor have the same bonus at +4. Silver, IIRC, is a bit lighter in weight. Silver and Elven (which is +5) are difficult to distinguish, but there is a slight color difference.

And I'm pretty sure any and all armor can come with the fancy gold bordering. It's just one of the styles, although it's unfortunate that the fancy boots were never fully added in; there's art for them in the files, but you'll never find any.

That will likely not help. Silver is just really rare. In fact, it might hurt. It might be you have a better chance of finding silver if you're very lucky. That's the thing about silver--it's hard to apply inductive reasoning when the events are so rare.

IIRC you can get one piece from the Fighter's Guild by advancing. Be careful not to jump a title or you may miss out.

This is correct in all respects. Elven does look an awful lot like silver (although they are not identical), and those are the correct modifiers.

Also, IIRC silver weighs the same as elven, i.e. less than steel.

My thinking was at higher levels if the loot is level dependant (so at higher levels you get more of a chance at deadric vs elven or steel and Silver is obsenely rare to begin with) perhaps a lesser chance at the higher qualities would mean a better chance for the lower quality armor, but your right, silver is just insanely rare.

Your thinking is good and may even be correct, but really there's no way to know.

I've had a full suit of elven more than once during my travels. I have just started playing again and am only level two, but once I get my house I start making piles in the attic of armor separated by material. I get anything that is silver or better and keep it. My old character has had complete suits of Daerdric armor, which looks really cool, but weighs him down if I remember correctly. Have had full suits of almost everything in the past, but I can post pictures if I get a full suit of silver with my new guy.

I also note that in 2.13, I seem to get fairly regular silver drops with this guy, and while it is more rare than steel, it still isn't hard for me to come by. I've been selling it to earn money towards my house.

The key: persistence. Foolish, foolish persistence.

"Drops"? You mean weapons? If so, yes, those are quite common.

elven is bright white, it's color is kinda bleached. silver is less bright, i think it's the same color as chainmail pieces.

i remember reading that silver is extremely rare because it was to have a special property, like monsters were suppose to be afraid to touch it or something, but it was never included (orcish too was the same way). didn't silver armor have a higher enchant capacity than daedric?

i think armor weights in general were kinda buggy. ebony weighed about as much as a suit of leather, and daedric was no heavier than steel.

Nopers. In ascending order of enchantability, it is iron, steel (+33% over iron), elven/mithril (+25% over steel), dwarven (+20% over elven), silver/adamantium (+17% over dwarven), ebony (+14% over silver), orcish (+25% over ebony), daedric (+20% over orcish, which makes it +300% over iron).

It does have an unusually high enchantment potential given its rather low protection capabilities.

Your second sentence is spot on, but I wouldn't characterize the different relative encumbrances as a bug. The idea was I think to make the armor system more interesting by forcing the thoughtful player to weigh the three factors of encumbrance, protection, and enchantment potential. (And possibly a fourth factor, looking fabulous.)

Did anybody ever modify the artwork to try to make the different types look more, well, different (even if only at an inventory level)?

I guess that's only possible if they each use distinct artwork for every single piece (can anyone confirm?).

I'm sure that we all gained the ability to spot a minor shade difference, but I did find it a little tedious having to inspect the stats for each item to be absolutely sure. Also, there's that weird phenomena of the armour which is not marked as being a specific material.

Can't do. The different materials are just a palette swap. Same picture, different colors.

One of the programs that can modify daggerfall (I think that it is "dfhack") allows you to alter the color of armor, weapons, etc.

I used it to change all of my name-sakes armor from the red of Daedric to that beautiful blue that Mithral has in DF. I changed the weapons to Dwarven gold. I guess the colors from my boyhood sojourn in the Cub Scouts influence me to some extent, but I still think that my character looked "damn good" as my distaff friends would say.
