Missing Eyes

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:12 pm

Alright, I got (Another) problem. And yes, I'm going to post my load order and such, as soon as I get it back. But I think this question remains valid.

I have all of my mods installed correctly, there are quite a few (All of the Major Overhauls, Better Cities, FCOM to make the Overhauls work, Unique Landscapes, and a fair amount of quest/realism mods.). My problem rises in the fact that all NPCs in the game are missing their eyes; in their stead is a clear view through the back of the actors head. While the game remains playable, it is unnerving to converse with NPCs. So to get to my primary question, is the lack of a proper bashed patch the cause of this? Possible things I think may be the root of this are that I have:

Thieves Arsenal
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1089735-relz-integration-the-stranded-light/ Integration, the Stranded Light. Caused me to get Race Balancing Project, which in turn needed me to get a number of character gen mods (Hair and eyes I believe)
Beautiful People (I believe another mod required me to get this, as well.)

Sounds like a Missing Mesh, probably a cosmetic mod...

Actually...I'm going to test something. If I disable the offending cosmetics mods, will this negative effect go away, or will I need to hunt the specific files throughout the data folder to root it out? I'm thinking that if I get rid of LAME, Integration: The Stranded Light, and Race Balancing Project, I should be able to get off clean with Beautiful People (Which I only even installed as an attempt to counteract this issue). Unfortunately, a steep loss, but still. LAME and Integration both tie with the Race Balancing thing (Since they're all by the same author), and the Race Balancing Project requires a number of cosmetic/race mods which I think may be the source of this...will update when I see the results.

RBP *includes* a number of cosmetic/race mods... is that what you mean by "requires"?

Anyway, yes, especially without a Bashed Patch, you'll probably find that multiple large cosmetic overhauls will not play well together.

Beautiful People changes the default eyemesh for all of the vanilla races, leading to googly eyes whenever another mod introduces new NPCs. RBP does not. Racial Balancing Project has its own required resources module - it does not require Beautiful People. At all.

I've never had a problem with RBP and didn't have to install any cosmetic/race mods. They are included in RBP itself.

Edit: Greenie got me!!! What she said *points up*. And to add, if I recall right, I had nothing but trouble from Beautiful People. I know others run it fine, but it gave me fits. I don't touch it anymore LOL

:D Ouija, I'm a looooooong-time user of RBP, and it has been blissfully trouble free the entire time. Glad to know you use it too!

OP, this article by bg2408 has all sorts of information that will help you avoid this kind of stuff in the future. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/775917-compatibility-and-you/. :)

Not googly eyes, MISSING eyes. I'm fairly certain that when I got RBP it linked me to various cosmetic things and such. Ehh.

Beautiful People, I know the issues with. I installed it in the hopes that some mod required either it or Capucines. I installed both. I personally prefer Capucines, so if I can get it working with everything I'll keep that in and ax Beautiful People (Since it isn't helping anyway). On the topic of RBP, does it conflict with tejon's Birthsigns Revamped (Or whatever the second word was)? Because I'd really hate that....agghhh. Too long since I seriously handled Oblivion. I'll bring in the detailed information on Monday.

Information I have privvy that I left out:
I have used BOSS.
I don't currently have a DECENT Bashed Patch. Atm, my game runs and such. But I'm not good at Bashed Patches >.> (Don't know where many of the tags should go.)

RBP is in two parts, and you *need* both.

edit: Oops, I had the names of the archives wrong. It's not "core" and "resources", but I'm still pretty sure they are effectively that. Sorry!

No external resources required. edit2: Except maybe if you are using some other replacers, like body mods. Again, sorry - I should've been more clear.

edit3: And for the most part, BOSS and Wrye Bash together can figure out the majority of tags and stuff for you. At least, it will be a decent start. Then just check all the things that need checking when rebuilding, and there you are. Noteworthy exceptions are often found in readmes or the like. But a lot of the time, you really could just run BOSS, reorder a couple of things if necessary, and use the tags that have been supplied (i.e., not have to assign any yourself) - just check them all, and build.

Uhh, just a very slight issue. I no longer possess most of the readmes. And I don't know which files I have to tag with what before I make the patch. And to make this worse, I can't post the list of mods right now. In short, I followed the readmes install instructions for all of the mods, then through an incidental wipe of the area I was keeping them, I lost the readmes. And such. So that leaves me with a few unsolvables. Still, I should be able to uninstall all cosmetic mods without changing RBP? Interesting. I'll check to make sure I've got that; it may have gotten in with a small cluster of 'minor' mods that didn't download correctly (There were some crashes at the time, and I don't know if I'd have made the connection between RBP and it's resource file at the time.)

Thanks for the help.

Just so you know, RBP contains Cap's eyes. I am a fan of Capucine's eyes as well. You should be fine uninstalling those other mods.

Bashed Patch - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/finishinstall/bashedpatch <-- If you use BOSS, it should give you most of the appropriate tags. Then you can just use this as a guideline. Most mods are safe to check where they appear in the Bashed Patch.
