Could someone help me

Okay, I just installed Arena again (After a long time of not playing it) and it works just fine in DosBox. The only thing is, the framerate. Is there a certain file I can edit to adjust the cycles? Because, when it's gameplay is slow, the background music is fine, seamless... BUT when the Gameplay is smooth, the music skips. I get it right there in the middle, to balance it out, but the gameplay is choppy, and the music still skips some. So what should I do, and tell me how plz? (I would follow my ArenaXP link, but thats so much to go through)

Did you adjust it manually using Ctrl+F11/F12?

You can open "dosbox.conf" in Wordpad (not Notepad) and look for the line 'cycles=' in it. Set that to something between 10000 and 15000, and then adjust it in-game by using CTRL+F11 to slow it down or CTRL+F12 to speed it up. The last guy I helped said his worked best around 13000, if I remember correctly.

Yep, that would be me :)

anywhere between 10,000-13,000 is fine for me, but for times with lots of battles I tend to lean towards 10,000.

Once you've got the gameplay running smooth, increase the frameskip to 2 or 3 by pressing ctrl+F8, that'll smooth the audio out without making the gameplay too choppy.

Frameskip is just that, it skips frames. Assuming you were getting 60fps, a frameskip of one would have you at 30fps, and at two, 20fps. If you skipped three frames, you'd be down to 15fps if you were achieving 60fps. Frameskip can destroy a game's framerate and make it harder to play due to choppiness. You should NEVER have to use frameskip to smooth out audio. If the audio isn't running smoothly but the game itself is, you generally just have to lower the cycles a bit. For example, Daggerfall at 40k cycles with a dynamic core causes the music to play slowly when dialogs are open, but it does not do this at 30k cycles. The same can be said for numerous other games. Frameskip should not be used unless you're experiencing some very bad problems and need to edbug them.

I got it now, I set the Core=Dynamic, Frameskip=1, Mem(size?)=128, Cycles=Auto in my Dosbox.conf file, now this works for Arena AND Daggerfall, no lag/frameskip, what-so-ever. Thanks for the info! (I will update my ArenaXP sig soon)
