Daggerfall Tutorial

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:44 pm

Now I have already read, that there are 9 tutorial tips on what to do... but I can get to 8, just not 9. The #8 says to travel to a big city, such as Daggerfall. And then wait there. But I read somewhere that you have to get there in the amount of days that says 8, I think the options are Sleep in an inn, travel carefully. But 8 days is barely enough to get there, to activate the last tip, #9. Does anyone know what the #9 tip says? Because, I want to go by it, and I'm not really sure what to do at the moment... Did Bethesda even play-test this game?! Makes me wonder... Any help please?

As far as I know, once you leave Privateers Hold, thats it. No more tutorial for you!

There is nothing after you leave the initial dungeon. Just play the game for a few days of game time and things will progress naturally. I suggest joining a guild and doing a few quests. That will start you off on a good foot in your guild and will pass the time.

I would also make sure you have patch 213 so that some messages will show when something happens. I had a problem in the older versions where somebody would slip me something and the message would never appear, I'd just have the thing in my inventory.

Ive been trying to find the thieves guild (dont tell me lol) It's pretty hard (like in every TES game, except MW)

The tutorial quest is broken. However, if you have a glance at the QRC file in a hex editor, you can learn that the next step, after exiting Privateer's Hold and going to Daggerfall is:

Tutorial Lesson 9
Ah, the sights and sounds of the city! Did you arrive at night or try to rest? If so, the guards will not let anyone sleep in the streets or even too close to the walls. You can only rest in Taverns, if you have purchased a room there.
The first thing you want to do is set your mode to DIALOGUE. Click on the hand icon until it changes to a word balloon, or just press F4. Now get close to one of the townsfolk. They won't stop to talk to you unless you are not moving. Click on the person and you will be placed into the Dialogue screen.
(continued...)
You want to find a general store or weaponsmith. It is one of the places you can sell your excess gear. The person will probably give you directions. Travel in that direction for a while and then ask another passerby. Continue this until somebody marks the location on your map.
Press M to view the map of the city. You should be able to tell where the building is from that. All shops have signs out front. Learn the signs and you will be able to get around much easier. You will need a tavern to rest. look for the mug of ale sign.
Hint: Pressing F3 switchs [sic] you to INFO mode. You can click on buildings to learn what they are. Some shops don't open until late in the day. You can loiter (a REST option) until the shopkeeper decides to unlock the door.
Don't leave town! I'll check in with you again tomorrow.

Then, the next day, this was meant to appear:

Tutorial Lesson 10
Today's lesson is about guilds. A guild is an organization that offers benefits for its members. As you rise in rank in a guild, you get more benefits. To rise in rank, you must improve skills that guild cares about, and perform quests on a regular basis to improve your reputation with them. You can belong to more than one guild. All spellcasters should join the Mages Guild. Everyone should pick a temple to join. However, pick carefully. You can only be a member of one temple. Fighter type characters should join either the fighter's guild or a knightly order.
Hint: Thieves and murderers, just do your thing. The underworld will contact you after a while.
I'll be back tomorrow with the next lesson.

Note that this is all word-for-word, minus a few funky little symbols which are thrown in occasionally. My guess is that these are to indicate a new line. Anyway, finally:

Tutorial Lesson 11
Today we want a quest. A quest is an adventure given by someone in town. Its amazing how many people in Daggerfall need the services of a brave hero or heroine.
Go to someone in a tavern or on the street. Ask them about work. Odds are that they will direct you to someone else in town. That person will offer you a quest. You don't have to take every quest that is offered. Successfully completing a quest means that person, and his friends, will like you a little better. It can also be profitable. Last, but not least, it is the best way to locate dungeons!
This is the last of the tutorial lessons. There is much more to learn about Tamriel and about the game. However, you now have the basics to be able to expore [sic] and learn these things on your own.

Good luck, and have fun!

Tsk, tsk, nasty typos on the 'explore' and 'switches', as well as a lack of capital 'l' for 'look' at the beginning of a sentence. Maybe that's why the quest stopped? Bethesda employees were so ashamed of the typos that they scrapped the quest?

Maybe not.
