Elswehr (spelling is wrong) is Khajiiti land, Black Marsh is the Argonian (various subspecies) and Hist land, Hammerfell is the Redguard land (and other race, long extinct, that I have forgotten the name of...), Valenwod is the Bosmer and Imga land, and High Rock is the Breton land and also where the majority of Orcs live.
Skyrim might also have Falmer.

Elswyr: Kajiit
Black Marsh: Argonians
Hammerfell: Redguard (Not where they actually come from, but it's where they've been in Tamriel for some time.)
Valenwood: Bosmer
High Rock: Bretons

EDIT: Oops. Too slow. :P

"Wood Elf" is a term used by Imperials to describe Bosmer. They are from Valenwood.

They're not two different races, they're two names for the same race. Ex: Wood Elf/Bosmer; High Elf/Altmer, Dark Elf/Dunmer...

They're not two different races. That's the point. It's like how "Indians" are also "Native Americans". Just two different names for the same people.

EDIT: Dammit. Too late.

For answers to most of your questions, go through the forums http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=15282, and http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=195079 threads. Try and read everything in there, and if the links broken, search the http://www.imperial-library.info/ for it. That place is a god-send for studying Lore.

Good luck.

Tamriel has lots of names for the same thing, sometimes. It's certainly true in the real world, where entire continents have poetic labels and names that are mythological or cultural references. District of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_(name), much?

Nope, you can't. Bosmer and Wood Elf are synomymous. Even ingame, there are no two such races, only one.
"Oblivion Description
The clanfolk of the Western Valenwood forests, also known as "Bosmer." Wood Elves are nimble and quick, making them good scouts and thieves, and there are no finer archers in all of Tamriel. Their ability to command a simple creature is well-known.

it says "wood elf" in the description of the bosmer race. it doenst have both "bosmer" and "wood elf" listed in the race list (the arrows at top). they are the same. just like dunmer = dark elves and native americans = american indians, its just a different name for the same set of peoples.

Black Marsh is also really known as Argonia. It's only Black Marsh in Imperial culture. All people of the root refer to it as Argonia in the common tongue and something unpronouncable to Imperials in their own language.

Just another example of something with two words to describe it.
