One-handed sword in the right hand, shield in the left. IIRC, you can hold two one-handed swords but the shield goes in the left hand. I usually end up with a two-handed sword, as it will inflict the most damage....

i have a katana,is it a 2 hand-sword?

how do i check if its a 2 hand sword or 1?

why can't i attack with the katana when i have a shield equiped and why does the katana usually get equipped in the inventori screen to the left hand?

Remove them both and then equip the shield before the katana. It will work then.

If you need to know what keys to press, then press ESC and look at the options for Controls on the keyboard :)

Playing with this I just found a fun bug. I equipped a Katana and then switched to my fist hand (left in this case). Then I equipped a shield and I could still use my fist! After switching to the katana I couldn't switch back of course.

Can you switch hands if you use a different sword in each?

Normally you don't have to. if you have both hands empty weapons will usually end up in your right hand.

You use the steal mode on them. It's not worth it. You only get one try with a lock. I just bash them open.

Well... if you increase both your INT and Lockpicking to 90 or more, you will succeed more often than not. And it is very satisfactory to sneak around with thief during the night and loot closed shops. Yes, it takes lot of time to increase that damned skill and yes, there are easier methods to open locked door, but still, true thief uses lockpicking :)
