Using the unnoficial patch

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:37 pm

Hi,

I am getting fallout 3 today. I never played the game but I am a long time bethesda game player. I played through Morrowind and oblivion with tons of mods. The unnoficial patch is absolutly essential for those 2 games (as far as I am concern).
I was just wondering if I should use the unnoficial fallout patch for my first play through. Its the only mod I intend to play for the first time.

Well, I haven't had much luck with the unofficial patch. Lots of CTD that get resolved as soon as I remove it. The suggested clean-up using FO3Edit did not help. I had some other problems I can't blame directly on it, but they did not reoccur when replaying those areas without it.

My opinion is that the fixes from the patch aren't worth the problems it introduces. If it were maintained, I'm sure it would be a different story.

Thanks!

Is Fallout 3 really buggy anyway? I am guessing it has less major issue then Morrowind or Oblivion.

I use UF3P very long and can't play without it anymore.
I play masterupdated game, because of this most of bugs in UF3P not exist for me.
I had some issues in presidential metro, but easy to create fix removed it. If you interested- send me PM, I will share this patch with you.

Its a hit or miss with some people. If it works for you, then I would suggest using it, if not, then I wouldn't suggest using it.

Is there a list of UFP patches somewhere? I plan to use it when I get around to playing, and I know there's a Rivet City CTD fix for UFP, but what others?

I have a few GNR news fixes I did for my own personal use. Other than that, the only UFP patch is the Broken Steel fix previously mentioned.

I wouldn't bother with it.

More to the point, I don't bother with it. And if you're playing through, otherwise vanilla, why not just play vanilla? I mean, use the 1.7 patch, I guess. But really, if you want to experience the game "as it was intended", or whatever floats you boat that way, an unofficial patch is clearly not the way to go.

Perhaps see if you can pick up on anything that needs patching, and then decide if you think risk:reward is looking favourable...?

Do not use it. Causes the same amount of bugs it fixes. And since it does that, whats the point.

Do consider stuff like Stutter Remover though. FOMM and FOSE etc. Those will be your buddy on your modding trip.

For me no need in almost all of them, if I play with masterupdated game.
Well- different peoples have different feelings about this patch, but I think it will be good if some modders will use some parts of Uf3P in their own work, if needed.
FWE do so.

Aha. I was wondering about that. I'm still using FWE, for now, and that doesn't surprise me.

Perhaps that's one reason I don't need UFP. Hm. We'll see, when I get around to switching to ART.

1. Enclaves, spawned from the beginning of the game- BS DLC bug, fixed in UF3P
2. Freeze after level-up with OA DLC installed- OA DLC/vanilla bug, partially fixed in UF3P
3. Wrong armor, given to the player after OA DLC simulator- OA bug, fixed in UF3P firstly.
4. You gonna shoot them in the head quest was completed before the time - OA bug, fixed in UF3P firstly.
5. Time of the day did not match with exteriors (night in the morning bug)- fixed in UF3P
6. Charon bug, when hired.
Many others, don't remember already. Full list of fixes can be found in UF3P documentation., not all of them are minor fixes.

That's the thing. UFP does some marvellous work, and greatly improves F3 (as it did for Oblivion) -- the fact it has a few bugs is unfortunate, but I'd rather these were fixed that people staying away from it. UFP for Oblivion is a must-have hands down, and UFP for F3 was shaping up to be the same.

Perhaps we need someome to take over where Quarn and co left off?

Fallout 3 was actually less buggy in the from the disk release than the current version... but alas, no mods if I use that version... :(

And with the Unoffical patch... really it varies from person to person, I found alot of errors in my earlier games using mods were caused by it.
