esp help

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:29 pm

My self made esp files aren't working. Neither are some downloaded ones, but some other downloaded ones do work.

Any ideas why?

Thanks.

There could be several reasons;

1. You're on Vista or Win7 and installed Oblivion into the default Program Files location.
2. You're using the old v1 of the CS to create your esp's.

You should re-install Oblivion outside of Program Files, into it's own directory like C:\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion to avoid the UAC issue you're running into. Or, if it's #2, get CS v1.2.

Adding to #2 from above, make sure "your game" is also properly patched to v1.2.0416, as plugins created with the 1.2 CS (nowadays almost all) will just be silently ignored (there'll be no errors or warnings or whatever) by a pre-1.2 game.

I am using Windows 7, and the CS v1.2.

I let the game put itself where it wanted, in program files, so where should I put it instead?

Thanks for the help.

Anywhere other than program files. I use C:\Games\Oblivion. Some people use C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion...

I put it in C:\Bethesda\Oblivion, and I'm sure that I'm using the v1.2 CS, and they still aren't working.

Any other possibilities? In the meantime I'll check my CS.

You have never said what version your game is. Look at the bottom left of the game start menu.

See, this is why Xbox is so much easier.

GOTY, Version 1.0.228. I don't think that I have any 'patches.' Do I need any? Could this be my problem?

Did you install Shivering Isles?

With the GOTY edition the game will be officially patched when you install the 2nd disk.

I haven't yet.

So that was my problem? Not installing disc 2?

Yes.

The patched CS does not work with the unpatched game.

And the XBox does not allow you to mod, so I fail to see how that is easier.

I meant easier in the sense that there is none of this patch buisness that must be downloaded before this works, and you need this file to do that.

PC will be more fun soon, as I can mod (hopefully).

Thanks chaps,

Sincerely,
