There's no laws against lasers :P

If I had the time, I would love to build one of these. Afraid it wouldn't look so fancy though, I don't have a machine to mold that stuff.

Well since nobody has said it yet I guess I will,

“Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.” ~Han Solo

Laser based weapons would work best on space environment where there is no gravity. But ballistic weapons
will remain dominant in infantry scale combat operations on ground level.

Yup, nothing quite beats the practicality and dependability than hot flying lead :P

"Order now and prepare for the future!"
That's not powerful enough. We need to go deeper make it more poweful. At least 5 mw and it would turn a person into ash in less than a second.
And for the sake of nerdy people, they must make the pew pew sound!

Weed IS legal in Cali and Washington, but only in small doses. Lasers are legal so far, no matter how powerful they are.

IT'S A FRIKIN LASER!

And it's lethal. If it can burn through plastic and melt aluminum, it can kill. I'm not seeing one of these at the local gun store anytime soon.

Not to be a party pooper, but it seems like this could only really be effective against humans by blinding them, which is something banned internationally by the terms of war (blinding laser weapons, Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons).

I find it sad and pathetic one hacker can do this. Why the [censored] are we giving the government money for weapons research ? They sould have done this, but they got beat by a hacker. I cant wait to see it improved :)

They already have laser weaponry to guide missiles, shoot down missiles, and mess with missile tracking systems. I am also sure the government has REAL laser pistols/rifles in some research lab somewhere.

until it can blow through someone's skull, I am not thinking it will be a big weapon for the army, but I do agree that if a hacker could make something like this, couldn't the people that make weaponry make something... better?

Awesome.
The most powerful laser I've shot with had "only" the power to cause severe eye damage and blindness in a range of a few meters, but the point in that laser was to measure distances up to 10km.
