Custom Music?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:39 am

Recently someone told me they put their own music in Oblivion. I'm not sure if they're kidding so I am asking the experts here:

Can you put your own mp3's in Oblivion? I heard someone say that they replaced Atmosphere1 with one of their Beatles tracks, how the heck did they do that?? If there is a way, can you show step by step?

Thanks

Yep it's entirely possible and easy to do. :)

1. Locate your Oblivion folder. Normally the directory is "HardDrive\ProgramFiles\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion"

2. Inside Oblivion's folder, open the Data folder. Then locate the Music folder.

3. In the Music folder, you'll see 5 folders: Battle, Dungeon, Explore, Public and Special.

4. Battle and Dungeon are self-explanatory. Battle plays during combat and Dungeon is, well, inside dungeons. Explore is when you explore the wilderness. Public is when you're inside a city, house or any other "safe" areas. Special has the success, death and title song that play on the main menu.

5. You do not need to replace the music already there. Simply put your mp3s in the appropriate folder and the game automatically plays them. If you do want to replace a song in particular, you'll need to rename your desired mp3 to the name of the song you want to replace. (Make sure you backup the original file if you want to revert back to it!)

6. Listen and have fun!

yes it is possible in 2 ways

1) duplicate your current music for extra measure. Don't want to accidentaly loose that forever. Move the duplicate to a different location (example: my docs/my games/Oblivion). Then take the songs you want to hear and title it EXACTLY the same as the song you want to replace, and move the newly titled song into the correct folder that contains the song you want to overwrite and tuh-duh.
(music folder is: Oblivion/data/music)

2) Download music mods, such as my favorite: Side's Better Music System(req OBSE18 and a few other mods). After installing drag and drop your favorite tunes into the folder with the name of the place you wish for that tune to play and tuh duh!

I myself changed the battle music with some Zelda music and Borderlands battle music, and with Side's BMS I have custom (ROYALTY FREE!) orchestrated trakcs that play throughout various regions. Like the Gold Coast plays a variance of a song from Wind Waker.

EDIT: ninja'd :'(

Indeed, BMS ftw. But if you don't want to go that route, it's even easier, yes.

Been having fun with Anequina tracks, among others, personally. :D

edit: And there's a great thread in this forum somewhere, with tons of recommendations for BMS tracks...

It's a feature of the mod he mentioned, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26892.

How can you achieve the effect of making music appear in certain regions without that mod? Can you self-mod this?

For example, someone once created a mod that took the borders out of cyrodiil, however, all that needed changing was the 1 (replace with 0) in the ini file for border regions.

So is there a simple way to do this without downloading the mod you linked to? I prefer manually tweaking if I can. Thanks

Simple? Nope. BMS is the only mod I know off the top of my head that does regional music. It is not possible with vanilla Oblivion.
