Just wondering, how big is each of the TES games world? Eg, how big was Vvardenfell in Morrowind?

Both games use a construction set scale of 128 units = 6 feet, or equivalently, 70 units = 1 meter, and a time scale of 30:1.

In Oblivion, the playable range is just over 5 km x 6 km (at the CS scale), or at 30:1 scale, 152.5 x 181.5 km.

Westernmost landmark: Garlas Malatar (3.132 km W, 0.190 km S)
Easternmost landmark: an Oblivion Gate north of Sundercliff Watch (2.886 km E, 0.131 km S)
Northernmost landmark: Serpent's Trail (0.558 km E, 2.457 km N)
Southernmost landmark: Deepscorn Hollow (1.730 km E, 2.627 km S)

In Morrowind, including Solstheim, it's slightly smaller: just over 5.5 km x 4.8 km (at the same scale), or scaled, 165.6 x 145.5 km

Westernmost landmark: Stahlman's Gorge (Solstheim) (3.136 km W, 3.106 km N)
Easternmost landmark: Omaren Tomb (Azura's Coast) (2.383 km E, 0.542 km N)
Northernmost landmark: Caverns of Karstaag (Solstheim) (2.779 km W, 3.211 km N)
Southernmost landmark: Arano Tomb (Azura's Coast) (1.765 km E, 1.638 km S)

Map coordinates were obtained from the Google maps at UESP.

"Daggerfall is the largest Elder Scrolls game to date, featuring a game world estimated as being 161,600 square kilometres (62,394 square miles or 40,400,000 acres) with over 15,000 towns, cities, villages, and dungeons for the player's character to explore.

According to Todd Howard, Elder Scrolls programmer, the game's sequel, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is 0.01% the size of Daggerfall, but it should be noted most of Daggerfall's terrain was randomly generated. Vvardenfell, the explorable part of Morrowind in the third game has 25.9 square kilometres (10 square miles). The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has approximately 41.4 square kilometres (16 square miles) to explore."

I hope it's at least ten times TES4. 1%-10% of TES2 would be nice, but I don't think so.

I wonder how detailed the TES:V landscape will be.

I hope it's as detailed as the real world: like, you can travel 100 km through a glazier without finding anything but frostbites.

I've always had one problem with this whole scale thingy.....

That are the two bridges around the imperial city.....
In real scale these things would be huger then huge!
having a bridge their would be even bigger as a bridge from morrowind's mainland to vvardenfell...!

I wonder how varied the TES:V landscape will be.

I wonder if Beth will actually get up and try to make it deep, detailed, big AND varied at all...

Mentioned it often enough but they should go this way:
-After deciding on the setting they create the base landscape, with that also difining the size of the environment.
-They do the rough landscaping.
-They roughly do some placing, lets randomizers run over landscape and let it "age" (grow, corrode...)
-They split into teams, each taking a section of the map and fine detail it like the "unique landscapes" mod did it.
-They put each together and smooth out the edges
-They fine detail it again.
-They fine detail it AGAIN.
-They fine detail it AAAGAAAAAAIN.

I am all for randomness (gives a unique feel every time i play the game) And large areas to explore. I found that after a few plays through Oblivion there was nothing new to see, nothing left to explore. Just felt like the same old lands and the same old missions I'd done 10 times before.

It would be good if you started in a completely different side of the TES world depending on your character selection.

There is an easy way to compare them- with the great Nirn Map from the Tamriel Almanach! If you can speak german, its even better. But even without such skills, its awesome (and way better than UESP)- and its not even finished! :D
