Guilds and Factions.

Just wondering what guilds we will see in Skyrim and how many of them will be joinable? Just to refresh peoples memories here are some links to pages with information about the guilds in both http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Factions and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Guilds.

So what guilds would you like to see return in Skyrim? Would you prefer fewer in depth guilds like Oblivion (note that I do not count factions like "The Knights of the White Stallion" or "The Order of the Virtuous Blood" as proper guilds) or more variety like Morrowind? Would you like to see rival guilds joinable (such as making a choice between joining the Blackwood Company or the Fighters Guild and being barred from the other)? Would you like to see some new guilds native to Skyrim or guilds that have grown and their influence spread in the 200 years since Oblivion? And finally do you have any cool ideas for guilds that you would like to share?

Personally I wouldnt mind to see a bounty hunter themed guild where the player is tasked with tracking down elusive criminals and bringing them back alive for a bonus or dead for half the reward. Also while the "The Order of the Virtuous Blood" was a joke in Oblivion (3 posers in a basemant who were probably the worst vampire hunters in Tamriel as they couldnt even identify the Vampire hiding right under their noses) it could be cool to see the guild grow and its influence spread to the point where it has become a proper joinable guild in its own right in the 200 years since Oblivion.

Thoughts?

If there is a faction you can join, there should be a rival faction you can join as well. Besides that, same as usual.

well at least the 3 basic guilds

fighter

mage

thief

I also think there should be some system to make "multi guilding" hard, so joining the first guild is as easy as it was in Oblivion, just ask a recruiter, 2nd should involve a few somewhat hard quest, joining more then 2 arent allowed.

"We've decided to simplify the guild system in Skyrim, we now have the Combat guild, Mage guild, and Stealth guild. Within each of these guilds there are several quests the player can do. We think it's less confusing for the player this way"

Spoiler

Yeah I made that up, but it could happen

I think there should be a good variety where you can join more than one, even if they're conflicting- like in oblivion. I just hated it in Fallout New Vegas where if you help faction the others get mad

I would like the guilds to be more broad and less narrow. I don't want to to see just a thieves guild, or just a fighters guild.

Rather then joining a fighters union you would join a mercenary group that is more then just pure fighters. They have some archers and a battle mage too. It's more varied and gives reasons for player types other then fighters to join too. There missions would mostly have to do with combat, but still allowing other skills and mission types to show up. For example, a mission where the company has to rob a armor store to get supplies. It's a robbery ,that is normally a thieves guild type quest, but you go about it a different way. Braking down the door beating up the guards, and threatening the owner.

The thieves guild could have some alchemist , some smugglers, and maybe a small slice of magic too. It could be ran out of the back room of a potion shop. They do more then just steal things, but everything they do requires some kind of stealth or secrecy. For a mission you could be asked to brew up some poison and then sneak it into a ship. The hitch is that the ship is already out at sea, so you have to use the guild's mage to gate you to it and back. There can even be a few quest where you brew up perfectly normal and legal potions to keep the front going.

Or you could have guilds require a certain skill set to join? For instance you need to at least have 3 or 4 skills under the warrior skillset above 25 to join the fighters guild and increase them even more for advancement?

That is what I don't want. I want other class types to have reasons to fit in these guilds. A battle mage would fit into a mercenary squad, so now the magic person has a reason to join the guild. He may want to invest some in armor as the guild uniform is steel full-plate, but he is free to use his magic and not forced to pick up warrior skills to join the guild.

I agree. Personally, I want to be able to do everything in one playthrough.

I personally like the fact helping one faction made you hated by another, gave a nice immersive touch that your actions had a effect on the world, and that the world around you actually notice your actions.

consider terrorist organizations dosen′t have a trademark to them, nor are they against infiltrating enemies, that′s not a impossibility X3

also my good sir seam to have misunderstood, I′m against being able to join all faction, just like you seam to be X3

Well a thief isn't going to walk around town wearing a thieves guild membership badge on his or her chest.
Unless the guild is public (political factions) and the word is put out there that "Player" did this or that, how's anyone going to know it was you?

I have removed flames, flamebait, autocensor bypasses, political discussion and off topic posts. Seems you folks left nothing when it came to breaking rules. So let's try again while I spend the next half hour of my life to give warnings, write pm's and log it all. I suggest you all now stay on topic.

Wishful thinking on your part, because that's exactly what happened to many of the best parts of Morrowind. Just sayin', don't be too surprised. Also, in the recent GI podcast, Todd said that guilds were in, but they'd be handled "differently" this time around. He didn't elaborate.

I prefer that guilds conflict with eachother like it was in Morrowind and likely Daggerfall(although I've just started that game). It was stupid how you could join all the factions in Oblivion, with one character, heck you could be in the Mages Guild and not know a fuggle about magic.. that just did not make sense 8|

I'm hoping for as many guilds as Morrowind, with as much variety: Fighters, mages, thieves, a religious faction or two, a more mature Dark Brotherhood, some political factions, a military/police force faction, and a spy/agent guild would be pretty cool as well. I would also like to see guild restrictions, you shouldn't be able to join every guild if you don't have the necessary skills.

I'd like to see the traditional guilds: Fighters, Thieves, and Mages (here I believe we're getting two guilds, but I can't seem to remember the names). Then, I want more stuff like Morrowind had. I loved having a choice of two religious guilds to join, Imperial Cult and Tribunal Temple, and how some guilds paired with each other quite well (House Redoran with the Temple and Fighters, for example). It would be great if we had options similar to the great houses (what with the civil war and all, it makes sense to join a clan or something to support that side). Then there should be an assassin's guild: either the Dark Brotherhood or the Morag Tong (or both competing would be great too). I thought New Vegas handled it quite well, though the absence of any true "good guy" side annoyed me a little (but I can overlook it because it's still a great game). So, in sum, here's what I'd like to see:

Fighters
Thieves
Mages (again, we have two competing guilds semi-confirmed, I think)
Religious Guilds (at least 2 competing would be nice)
Something akin to Morrowind's great houses
Assassin's Guild
And if the Empire still has a presence, perhaps the Imperial Legion (though I think that may be a stretch)
Merchant-style guild (something similar to Raven Rock, perhaps)
