Groin Hits

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:07 pm

One of my favorite aspects of Fallout 1 and 2 is that it allowed you to specifically target an enemy groin when attacking. The effect could be devastating if the hit was successful...the target would be stunned, thus opening him/her up for additional attacks and swinging the battle in your favor.

I'd like Skyrim to adopt this feature by registering the groin as a separate hitbox (in addition to hitboxes for the legs/arms/head etc.) I think this would add tremendous strategic and immersive qualities to combat, extending the possibility for interesting combos and finishing moves. There could be some AMAZING finishing moves that target the groin. I'd personally like to see a whole category of groin-based finishing moves.

As a graphical flourish, the game world could be really fleshed out by adding some realistic renderings of medieval weaponry on groins. I'd love to wade into battle and specifically see the effect of an upward swing of a battle axe on a human groin, or a powerful thrust of a longsword to the groin. Bethesda could even get as detailed as modeling the difference between a thrust attack (like a sword or arrow) and a slash attack on a groin, but of course that level of detail isn't necessary.

NV had it 2 had to find the 9 iron
but the groin is actually one of the places a person would aim in combat, that and the neck and armpits

Why the armpits?

there is a major vein there and its harder to protect it with armor because it is at a joint

You sir hit the head on the nail.
However unless full details of how combat is handled are known, I'd this this would be more difficult in hack and slash 1st person games.
As most attacks would just swipe the hips, thighs and abdominal area.

Why the armpits?

It is a spot that cannot be heavily armored, because doing so would prevent movement of the arm. There is also a major artery running there. So a stab to the armpit was one of the best ways to kill someone wearing plate armor.

I like your threads they amuse me greatly. Still seeing how New Vegas didn't have the groin targetable in Vats i can't imagine them putting something like that in skyrim.

I don't know i think the vast majority of people would never target the groin out of courtesy. Sadly i'm not that nice i imagine with it being the most vaunerable part it'd be my primary target (assuming its not armored).

Armpits have always been a problem to armour, since if you wanted to move your arm, there had to be some sort of gap.

By the Nine you must hate groins! What have they ever done to you?

I wouldn't mind having one or two finishers per weapon type but I'd prefer the vast majority to be elsewhere on the body, otherwise every single melee character would have to be RPed with some hatred of groins which would probably lead onto having to RP them as gender dysphoric. Much rather end up having to RP a blood thirsty character with a penchant for lopping heads and such off, as you can do much more with that character wise. xD

For those of you who like both spears and groin hits, here's a quote from a Viking saga that I posted to another thread...

"He mounted the steep snowdrift, making for Helgi Droplaugarson, and thinking he had something against him. But when he came into the snowdrift, Helgi Droplaugarson aimed with a spear between his legs and pierced through the scrotum, and he fell backwards, and the spear stuck fast in the snowdrift, and he hung there on the snowdrift for the whole day." - Droplaugarsona saga

All depends on implementation. In Fallout 1/2, they went with realism: a groin is a groin, and the only difference gender-wise is the pitch of the gasp when someone gets sledgehammered in theirs. And even then, the difference is rather...minimal.

It's so sad to think that they most likely will not be implementing it. It'd be so great if they did, but I just don't see Bethesda going for it. Not really their style, you know?

I think this just plays into the localized damage that I'd wanted to see in Skyrim. The special thrusts though would probably play in with finisher moves. Unfortunately, the groin would probably not be implemented by Bethesda because it's generally a no-go when you're trying to make combat feel serious/safe for your manhood. For comical games, definitely, but Elder Scrolls games are games where you can just stab through an inch of steel to pierce someone's heart, and you don't care.

The armpit would probably also be out for the aforementioned reason too. Why be realistic when you can be awesome. :toughninja:

But the neck would be great for finishers. If possible, I want to slice the heads off of my foes while they're on their knees

... Insofar I'd like to see a number of non-lethal moves that can incapacitate an enemy without killing them, I suppose yes. Could be useful when mobbed by a group.

You people scare me more everyday. :P

Trust me, it hurts when a woman gets hit in the groin!

What? No! That's not at all appropriate for the Elder Scrolls series. Leave the groin alone. You're in a medieval-esque battle to the death and you go for a groin hit? Dishonor! That type of behavior is unheard of in the Elder Scrolls universe and would not at all be a welcome addition to me. It would irritate me greatly if that was implemented.

Yeah, well we want a lot of things but we don't want our games mixed up nor does this topic generally end well even in the correct section.

Closes as off topic discussion. Not to mention the flamebait it can serve up.
