Cows & pigs were conspicuously absent from Cyrodiil. It might be too cold in Skyrim for chickens.

Elk, caribou, moose, wolves, grizzlies, polar bears, eagles, salmon, seals, walruses, whales, mountain goats, arctic foxes, snowshoe rabbits, some sort of arctic marmot, and maybe even penguins could all have a place in Skyrim. I wouldn't expect to see much in the way of reptiles (except for Dragons, of course). A snow leopard or something like that would be fun.

We already know Trolls are in and we've seen art for what looks like a spriggan. I believe Yeti and giants have been confirmed.

It would be fun to see some unique monsters. Maybe there's a quest to kill the great big baddie giant two-headed wolverine thingamabob over on the top of such and such mountain. And it has no species -- just a name, like Grendel or something.

Less "Earth" creatures, more "Nirn" creatures.

Actually I have to disagree with this one, and I know I'm in the minority. The problem I had with big oblivion mods like MMM and Frans was the fact that the wilderness and countryside got filled with all sorts of superhostile demons and reptilians to the point that much of the immersion was lost. That's why I'm a big fan of WAC's.

Passive fauna is definitely needed to make the wilderness seem more "natural". I really hope Skyrim will be more of a Low Fantasy RPG. I understand that many people see the term "Low" as a negative one, but I think it simply means that the magical and fantasy elements are subtle and stylish. And I think the subtleness gives these other worldly elements more value. Many might say that Morrowind was the opposite of Low Fantasy, but I would have disagree on that too. I think Morrowind had rather realistic world setting within its own framework. Oblivion on the other had felt a bit more inconsistent.

The one thing I hope for the wildlife in Skyrim is to have this consistency where none of the fauna and flora seem "out of place". So far the screenshots have been promising. The giants, spriggans and frost trolls, albeit fantastical, fit nevertheless into the pseudo-scandinavian landscape. I hope we have a lot of this mythic bestiary from nordic sagas as well as real/extinct animals from northern latitudes (Mammoths, woolly rhinos, moose, Sabretooths, cave-bears, high land cattle/yaks, boars, mountain goats etc.)

  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:MW-creature-Winged_Twilight.jpg from Morrowind
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:DaggerfallDaedraSeducer.gif from Daggerfall
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:BS-Monster-Dark_Seducer.jpg from Battlespire (not Shivering Isles)
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:DaggerfallHarpy.gif from Daggerfall
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:OBCreature-Imp.jpg from Oblivion and Daggerfall

All of these creatures would be great, especially with all the work they have done with dragons being able to fly. No more hovering, these creatures could actually attack from the sky. These creatures would all give us something more to fear from the sky, than just the dragons.

I wonder... If the "Daedra Seducer" is actually the Dark Seducer in Shivering Isles? I gather that because the Dark Seducer is listed in monsters, not daedra. In Daggerfall. If that's the case I would like to see the Dark Seducer from Shivering Isles combined with the "Daedra Seducer" from Daggerfall. So, instead of just being a succubus basically they become actually kind of unique.

Either way I agree with your list for the same reasons.

Why can't there be some "Earth" creatures on Nirn? I really don't see why people think that nothing from earth can appear on Nirn, I mean nothing else from Earth exists on Nirn other than the races of Men, water, fire, air, iron, steel, trees etc.

I'd like to see Giants from Daggerfall make a return, and possibly Gryphons to give us an aerial opponent that won't dilute the awe of Dragons.
Nymphs should return, they can wear more if they want. Spriggans are meh.
The Imperial Race shouldn't come back... but I don't think they'll ever get rid of that bad idea.
Instead of horses, we should get Ridable Bears.
Dire Wolves from ARENA should return. Ah, heck... Dire Animals of all types should come!

Skyrim is not Solsthiem, and doesn't have anything to do with Hircine. We don't need Skyrim to be a sequel to an expansion of a game.

Goblins could be a good staple monster, especially further south.

All kinds of wolves...they are just great noble creatures and would fit perfectly into setting.
