Trying to Setup Modded Oblivion

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:02 am

I'll try and cover everything so that people can understand and help me out with my problem. I have the GOTY version of Oblivion from Steam. After playing with some mods for several hours I went on to the main mission. Well my problem is that when I'm to take Martin Septim up to Cloud Ruler Temple I noticed he had one of those yellow WTF things. I ran FormID Finder and it said that Meshes\Weapons\Iron\Dagger.NIF could not be found. I also can't see long and short iron swords when I equip them. I see the icons in the inventory screen. But when I equip them I get the missing mesh notice in my characters hand. Is there any way to find the missing files? here is my load order if it will help.

Do you have the UAC turned off on the Steam folder, and do you have BSA redirection set in OBMM?

Edit: That is a dagger added by Oblivion, so that file should not be missing.

I don't think the UAC is turned off. It's my computer and I'm the admin. How do I find out about UAC? Also where do I find out about BSA redirection? I really don't use OBMM much except for loading my mods.

EDIT: I'm an idiot I do have files that say BSA. Sorry I didn't remember what that stood for.

Google "turn off UAC on folder" for help with that.

BSA Redirection: If you followed my setup instructions for OBMM, that should be set already, but you can find the setting in Utilities > Archive invalidation.

Well it did something right because that fixed it.

Only other problem I have is 1 arrow that I picked up while playing frostcrag reborn that has a pink arrow and quiver. I didn't notice it until I was going through to see what other weapons on armor were messed up and that was the only one.

ID finder said the file was Meshes\Weapons\Meteoric\Metarrow1.NIF But for this one it doesn't say the file is missing. How would I fix this? I tried reinstalling the mod and it was still pink.

There is an update for this on the original mod's page. Which mod installed this file? The names of the plugins that own these files would be very helpful.

I copied most of it down. The arrow is called Colo Pilin From mod: 2B DLCfrostcrag.esp

Does that help? I'll go check out and see if I have the newest version of the mod. I do know I downloaded the OMOD version. I just don't remember if it's the newest 3.0.6 one

Nooo, please, do not install Frostcrag Reborn. Not now. That mod's installation requirements are not something to scoff at, and you already have a nice-sized project on your hand. Install it if you want, but this is just how I feel about it. Try it if you want...

Edit: Have you tested your current setup for a few hours yet?

I all ready have Frostcrag Reborn. I've had it and played it for about a week now or more. I didn't have any problems installing or playing it. The pink colored weapon comes from that mod. I just never noticed it until today when i was checking to see if i have any other problems. Since it's only one arrow that's giving me the problem i might just say screw it and sell it for gold. It's not like the problem I was having with the trees and bushes.

The one thing I will not try and mess with anymore since it seems about 1000X harder at least for me is FCOM and all the steps required to get it to work. I tried a few times and never got it working so I just gave up. MAYBE some day in the future I'll try again when I understand things better. But for now I'm not messing with it.

If you have a missing texture, then Frostcrag Reborn probably is not installed correctly. How do you know that you installed it correctly? You have already found a missing texture (not a missing mesh). I suggest you reinstall the resources for the original Ayleid Meteoric Iron Weaponry mod to remedy the missing texture. Maybe Frostcrag Reborn contains the old versions of those files.

Ayleid Meteoric Iron Weapons - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7608 <-- You do not need the ESP. Just overwrite the installed files.

OH I forgot to ask about something yesterday. When I was looking through my file folder tying to figure out where the missing mesh for the iron dagger was. I noticed some of the NIF files would say things like Chandelier1.NIF and chandelier1Fake.NIF. Way before I found this site and Tomlongs site on how to install mods correct sometimes when installing a mod I would see "so and so .nif is associated with a different file do you want to overwrite?" I thought at the time it meant that if I overwrote the file the other mod wouldn't work. Does it hurt to have what I think are double files?

You can't really have "double files". Either they are named the same and then you can only have one in the same location. Or they have different names and then they won't affect each other.

OK. Well the game is running fine haven't found any more purple, red, or yellow things in the game so I think I'm good. Lets just hope things are good through the rest of the game.
