Bizarre face bug

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:11 am

Well I am stumped. I have tried deleting all the meshes and textures under characters. Uninstalled a couple mods. I reinstalled all the hair replacers and face replacers... got rid of countless mods. anyway... It started out with only a few affected npc's and not the actual player or women. Now it affects the the player as well as every npc.
The weird bug looks like this
http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq134/element14album/ScreenShot1.jpg
http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq134/element14album/ScreenShot03.jpg
http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq134/element14album/ScreenShot02.jpg
It is slightly difficult to see in those pics, this one clearly shows it http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq134/element14album/ScreenShot04.jpg
As the photos depict, the faces of all characters in my game sag heavily on the rleft hand side. The right eye is also closer to the nose than the left, and finally, the brow on the right hand side is higher than the left and strangely arched.

I also have; Vibrant Oblivion installed, improved facial textures, Robert's male body V37z-8295, Vanilla Hair replacer, Natural Faces, and TNR (through bashed patch.)
As a sidenote Roberts and all of the replacers minus TNR were added after the bug appeared... and all the children in MoDem's were also bald before this... huh the Modem's kids also have correct faces...
I would appreciate any help I can get. I am utterly stumped.

That would be a fault of the head mesh (but I hardly find it noticeable...) You can install a different head mesh if you want (i.e., ThrottleKitty's)

Throttlekitty seems to reccomend not using his mod as a replacer. Which Mesh is causing the problem?

There is also asymmetry allowed by the game. Should've mentioned that earlier... Make sure that you do not have a head mesh installed in the "Meshes\Characters\_" Male folder. If something is installed there, you have not been testing vanilla Oblivion's mesh. You can use OBMM's data browser to find out which mod owns that mesh too...kind of...hopefully. OBMM's conflict reporting is terrible...

Edit: The thing is... (OBMM) If you install mods with overlapping files, and later uninstall the one installed latest, the (overlapping) files of the latest mod will still be installed. Unless you were reinstalling mods as you removed the others, your tests may have turned up unreliable results.

hmmm I just checked. There are no mods adding anything to the male mesh folder, as far as heads go that is. Hmmm... i think i get what you are saying. I recently uninstalled the race balancing project from my game... but it over wrote a ton of stuff. I bet that was what caused it... hmmm but I still have no files in the mesh folder that target heads...

The asymmetry could be part of the default facegen settings. Cosmetic mods may change those settings.

Edit: TNR may change the asymmetry for individual NPCs as well.

Is there anyway I can directly fix the asymmetry? At the moment it seems alot easier. Ok I didn't mind TNR changing asymmetry on some NPC's, but it is effecting everything now. Including the female characters and my own character gen... Rebuilt the bashed patch without TNR, didn't fix it.

This is not a "fix" issue. This is a matter of taste, I suppose. Therefore, you could only (in your opinion) fix the asymmetry by tweaking each of the thousand NPC faces that TNR edits or something along those lines. Maybe changing the facegen settings would reduce the effect some though...

probably, the (not) "fix"... The problem with your question is that the problem you've pointed out is not really a problem. It is more of a design thing (that you happen to dislike, quite a bit it seems...)

I just don't understand how TNR would still be affecting things when it isn't activated AND it isn't in the bashed patch... hmmm... Well I think I just found a good excuse to install the new FCOM lol. Clean install here I come. Hmmm before I go nutts and spend hours reinstalling and downloading everything I currently have. How would I change the facegen settings?

You can do that through TESCS, but prepare for a lot of grievances between the disparity between the TESCS render window and the in-game appearance. Getting faces right requires much back and forth.

Fair enough. That is, more or less, exactly the situation I just do not care for everyface in my game to look like http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq134/element14album/ScreenShot04.jpg. I wouldn't mind it as much if it were only a few people... But it makes facegenning impossible for me and honestly drives me nutts.
Oh boy through the CS... Yeah I just tried that. More frustrating than doing a clean install with fewer than 100 mods. Sorry for taking up so much of everyone's time. I really appreciate the help though. Hopefully this was a one time weird bug, that I obviously caused, that messed with either the default mesh or the facegen settings (reffering to TNR going insane and making EVERYTHING have that face effect). Thank you once again for your patience and time Tom, I really appreciate it.

The TESCS face editing is more advanced. I may make a small tweak to a face in-game, but I primarily use TESCS to make faces. The in-game menu is very limited in comparison to what you can do outside of the game. (TESCS is no the only face making utility that can be used to generate faces for Oblivion.) I was suggesting, as a way to save time and energy, that you modify the facegen setting for races, instead of individual faces.

Yeah i understood that. I was just having alot of trouble trying to get half of one side to move a quater up, for the head to rotate about 10 degrees clockwise, and to realign the eyes. Nah I would rather just backup my saves and trash it. I needed the cleaning for the new FCOM anyway.
