edit a savegame

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:38 pm

re-formatted the PC; re-installed oblivion + mods + savegames
content is missing, continue to load? ...OK
crashes to the desktop
force quit/end program

is it possible to edit a savegame to remove certain mod dependency?

i think it's a mod thing, but i've been able to add and subtract mods before!

delete .ini file first before loading so it creates a new one.

Are you using Wrye Bash? If you go to the saves tab, then look at the column on the right - right click on the mod associated with the save that you don't want, and disable the mod there - or you can try changing it to a dummy mod. You can create dummy esp files by opening the construction set and saving an "empty" mod called "dummy.esp".

Disabling the mods doesn't always work, and dummy files also don't always work - but I've had some success with this.

i don't know what wrye bash is? ...an oblivion file manager?

my savegame scenario had my character on the deck of the dwemer airship above castle skingrad
maybe it's bloated from adding and subtracting mods?

Wrye Bash requires Python to work.

There is a simple python and components installer http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368. Get the file called Wrye Python 02 and the latest Wrye bash.

this is a complicated program - expect to do a lot of reading.

Also, if you're using Vista or Windows 7, installing Oblivion to somewhere *other than* Program Files (x86)\(etc.) is a good idea. I use C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion but almost anything else would work fine too.

yeah, i DL'd 3 parts from TESnexus

1. wrye bash 275 self installer
2. wrye bash 284_RC1 archive
3. wrye python 02

i followed the instructions... but there's still a problem.
i think it's looking for a file that starts with xw zw or something...

LOL, that (x86) is XXXactly where all my programs are being installed on windows 7

...why did they do that!? parenthesis in a directory is just tasteless and tacky

Install Oblivion outside of the default folder, install Wrye Python 02, run the 275 installer, then extract the archive version into the Oblivion folder, overriding when prompted.

the file windows 7 couldn't allocate was wxPython

so i basically uninstalled wrye bash on the windows 7 machine, then got it running on my XP machine

then i could see the save game and all it's dependency's... i cut out a LOT of fat by disabling a bunch of mods, but it still wont load.

WTFBBQ!!! >_<

Why did you uninstall Wrye Bash on Win7? Did you try installing wxPython again? The individual download is linked on the page I linked earlier.

As for your save, disabling mods is not always enough. The data that certain mods generate is saved more permanently, per say, in your save file. You can try launching and saving with dummy plugins (renamed to match "real" plugins) in order to get around some of that. If you find yourself disabling A LOT of mods, then there is a greater likelihood you are running into the problem I have mentioned.

I am too tired to elaborate on this at the moment... Good night.

Edit: Last thing, Wrye Bash shortcut (for Win7)...try, anyway...

Shortcut target (location): C:\Python26\pythonw.exe "D:\games\Oblivion\Mopy\bash.py" <-- path to Python26 and "path to bash.py" file
Shortcut Start In: D:\games\Oblivion\Mopy <-- path to your Oblivion\Mopy folder
Shortcut target (location, alternate): C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe /k e:\programs\oblivion\mopy\bash.py
