Games from your youth

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:17 pm

I used to play Rayman 2 on the computer with the neighbor girl when we were both 8 or 9...well, when she wasnt making me play house with her. Funny after all these years I still go over there and play that and worms 2 for old times sake. I hated both those games though, the only reason I played them with her was because they were slower paced and she could comprehend them :P (girls cant play video games lol) I really enjoyed Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine on the N64, never beat it though.

Another game from the mid 80's was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_%28video_game%29 from Firebird and I'm still have it for PC. I think that games is better known today under the title X3:Reunion but I'm not sure about it. :)

Dunno, they are similar but same ? Have been some fuss about Elite in the past iirc.

Then there is stuff like mame,if you have saved the rom′s that is,some is out for free though so the free ones is legit at least,if the readmes, sites and such gives correct information which one have to assume they do.

Played on a C64 drawing straight lines, that was amazing! (with just a keyboard, a tv and a tape recorder because games were on audio cassettes.) Then had an Atari console, space invaders, frogger, pitfall...
When we got our Tandy 1000 with a green and black monitor, I tried to play Police Quest but it was in english (not my mother tongue) and I was like 7. Never did much. Then an astonishing thing happened, my neibourgh had a http://obsoletegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/police_quest_1.png monitor and the game was from another dimension!

There where games on the computer that didnt need a high end computer to run what where some of your favorites from when you where a kid
one of mine was the Organ trail it ran on my grandmas old computer
i use to spend the summer with my grandparents just to play that
and then there was this one game i dont remember much about but it was a game that a puzzle game it came in generations like
grade 1-5
man good games dont remember the names tho

what about yours?

I remember playing Oregon Trail, but I liked Yukon Trail much more.

And then there was Myst, and after that Riven. I was very proud of myself when I beat Riven all by myself with no help.

Vaguely recall Reader Rabbit, http://www.demu.org/filestore/1/5/8/4_3e841c58ab6abed/1584pre_c378e0765d07d4a.jpg?v=2009-08-15+22%3A18%3A16, and tons and tons of hours of http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/6800/427014-do_not_touch_super.jpg. I remember http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlqQUtKnw5w being one of the very first games I ever played on a computer.

I remember playing http://www.godofstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/king_quest6.png, which I could never beat because there was an area in the middle that required a code from the manual to proceed, which we never had.

The http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUqKjjhdMjg intrigued me, even though I was too young to really understand enough to progress very far into it I still enjoyed the "live action" scenes, and likewise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXYSEagtShE&feature=related (WOAAAAAAAAAAAAH nostalgia trip right there, man it's been a long time). I managed to beat Carmen Sandiego though. :D

I consider Age of Empires II to be the beginning of my serious gaming life though. It was the first one that I ever got incurably addicted to.

I found my copy of Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter. I played my dad in a few matches last night. Apparently it's Japan only for the Saturn, but the Action Replay we have lets you bypass it.
That may explain why none of my friends have even heard of the game. http://www.fightersgeneration.com/characters2/norimaro-mshvssf-2.gif FTW.

Pong
We also had an Atari, a Commodore 64, and an Atom.
I was awful fond of PacMan and Pole Position, as well.
Myst was pretty good.
Much later on, it was the N64. Shadows of The Empire, Rouge Sqadron, Goldeneye, Battle for Naboo, Wave Rider.

The kids were awful fond of Xmen adventures, and Disneys Chp & Dale rollercoaster game for the Nintendo handheld, orginal Gameboy.
I think they still have those, somewhere. They are spoiled now to games on pc and the 360 with a big screen.

Oregon Trail
Age of Empires (all versions)
Backyard Football. The guy who voiced Pablo is my Stagecraft teacher. They paid him 100$ to go voice a kid for an hour. He's the nicest guy I know.
The original fallout series (Black Isle)
Doom (original)
Fallout 3/NV (not technically my youth, but my bro played F3 with me before he left for Afghanistan)
Counterstrike: Source
Half-Life 1/2
Super Smash Bros: Gamecube
Any, and I mean any, game on the NES
Super Mario 64
annnnnnnnnnnnd; that one Zelda game on the 64 where you had to save the tree in the beginning.

Not bad for a kid born in 1995.
