Dualwielding?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:20 am

Is it somekinda new system were you got a block button and an attack button for each weapon or will it simply be Daggerfalls and Arenas system of changing which hand I'm using on a certain key?
I'm really expecting a new system allowing you to actually dualwield...

Feel free to discuss other dualwield related content as well...

My guess is that each trigger or mouse button will control the respective hands. And as for blocking IIRC you will have to hold both triggers.

We already know hoe it will work, this is 360 version.

Left Trigger is Left Hand Attack, Right Trigger is Right Hand Attack, Push both Bumpers (or triggers, don't remember) and you block. Hold them and you shield bash.

Frankly I find it counter intuitive.

You have to hold both triggers to block/shield bash even if you only have one weapon/shield equipped?

For PC, i hope someone mods a completely independent block key linked to no other move.

Bash should be the left attack button. (if shield is in left hand)

Indeed.
Altohught it doesn t bother me. Why bashing with shield should be diferent from attacking with second weapon?
Why not make all work the same way ?

left attack left
right attack right
both = defend

Left attack left (depending on which hand the shield is)
Right shield bash (depending on which hand the shield is)
Both = defend.

Such a simple system would benefit from being able to have left handed or right handed characters.

Even such system would be lacking since most 2 weapon users used the second weapon primarily as defense, with ocassional attacks IF the opponent opened a breach.

Oh man! I was saying to my mates years ago when Oblivion came out that Oblivion Duel Wield would be immense, and it would have to be controlled with LMB and RMB otherwise, it will svck : )

I would prefer something like this:

Right mouse button: Attack with right weapon/ Shield bash with right shield...
Left mouse button: Attack with right weapon/ Shield bash with right shield...
Left mouse button while holding the enterkey down: Block...
Right mouse button while holding the enterkey down: Block...

Quite simple if you ask me...
And to prevent people from holding the block key down for ages, the block should start noneffective shortly after (barely any time) it should be 100% effective but from there it should slowly fall...

maybe on PC we can remap block to middle mouse button, or one of the two thumb-buttons :P

Heres what I hope for:

Left trigger - attack left weapon/spell
Right trigger - attack right weapon/spell
Hold both - block
Hold both triggers + push right stick - bash

I think I read somewhere that you have to time your block by tapping the block button at the right time and to bash you hold in the Block button, I think its a good idea that way we don't just sit and cower behind our shield. If I find where I heard this (if I did) I'll post a link.

Second to last paragraph.

A good offense must be accompanied by a good defense. To make defending a less passive activity, Bethesda has switched to a timing based blocking system that requires players to actively raise their shields to take the brunt of the attack. If you hold down the block button, your character will attempt to execute a bash move.

I'm guessing that blocking works differently depending on whether you have a shield equipped. Using both buttons to block makes some sense with dual wielding, but you'd think that with a shield you could just hit the button the shield's assigned to.

It was actually in the Dutch game magazine - it said each trigger/mousebutton controls one arm. The blocking was confirmed by Oreic who gave the GI link. :)

they probably made shield-bash a hold down ability so you can't just quick-spam it like a regular weapon attack.

That part is incorrect.

It has to be because it makes no sense.

If this is the case (as it seems to be) then when done correctly the timed block should block 100% and the Player takes no damage. and the later/earlier you block more damage is taken.

But this sounds like another step in the right direction for the development of combat in the elderscrolls. I just hope the storytelling and roleplay aspects move forward twice as fast to catch up.
