Is There Fall Damage in Brink?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:28 am

Hey guys!

I've known of Brink for a while, and dismissed it out of hand as a Call of Duty clone...........until I saw footage yesterday.

As you know, I am now a fan, and have preordered it :D

But I have one question; Given that there is this new "SMART" system (Which looks like it will blow me away) I've been thinking about its application. I've noticed players in gameplay footage jumping several stories to no apparent ill-effects, which reminds me of Halo.....Mmmmmm.... Halo.

But I just wanted to know; Is there falling damage?

There is falling damage, but you can reduce/eliminate it by sliding when you hit the ground.

Thanks!

But how severe is it with just a normal jump? Does it increase geometrically? etc

When you are falling, I believe you can "slide" out of the fall, negating some or all of the damage.

This was invented to mimic the parkour style of "roll" where one would roll when they hit the ground to avoid injury.

Hope I was of assistance, and welcome to the forums. Please, http://image.com.com/gamespot/shared/promos/2010/fallout-new-vegas/enjoy-your-stay2.png :)

You'll notice on all the reasonably high falls, the player drops into a crouch/slide when they hit the ground.

We've been told that reduces fall damage, like a roll in parkour. They didn't put an actual parkour roll in because that would be disorienting for a fast-paced shooter, and you can't shoot while you're doing it. Making sure the player always has freedom to shoot is a pretty major focus.

EDIT: That was a pretty epic multiple Wraithing I just got...

Splash hasn't really released specifics...we have a handful of gameplay vids and interviews that we use to piece together what the game's like. I don't how much damage a 10 meter fall does or a 15 meter one (although if I had to guess, fall damage would be a geometrical increase rather than algebraic)

Yeah, the fast-paced but High-health appraoch of Brink drew me in.

Remember, when out of combat your health regenerates. So as long as you don't jump off the highest ledge, you should be okay most of the time.

Again, thanks, but I would really like some specifics; Falling Damage is pretty obviously going to be a major point in the game by virtue of its features.

Yes, but I'm telling you we don't have specifics. We don't know how much damage a SMG does versus an assault rifle, the fire rate of all the shotguns, or how much damage a landmine will do to someone. There will be fall damage, and we would like to have specifics too; however, they are not available.
