taking us both out of context. We both agree that Morrowind and daggerfall had better and useful fast travel systems. We just hated how Oblivion's quest markers made it so one never had to walk and explore the world around them.
Umm... Oblivion's was no different than Daggerfall's... In fact, you had
less incentive to go out and explore the world in Daggerfall, because the terrain was boring, massive (or infinite, in the case of ARENA), and you could fast travel to any dungeon you'd seen.
In Oblivion, you merely got to skip retracing and backtracking. You couldn't fast-travel anywhere you hadn't been before, so you still wanted to go out and explore.
And as ResistantKnight said... not everyone has hours to waste retracing their steps when they could instead be kicking ass, talking to NPCs, selling loot, doing quests, or *gasp*
exploring the world for new sights, sites, and treasures.
