I've been able to download and install several mods with no problem, but some mods, when the screen come up to actually download it, it says "unknown file type" instead of the usual "compressed (zipped) file", and when I download it, I'm unable to extract it. I use Vista, if that matters (it probably does, Vista doesn't seem to like morrowind), and any advice would be apreciated.

What's the filetype? AFAIK Vista doesn't natively support any other compressed file except .zip. You must download a third-party archiver/extractor tool (ie. 7-zip) to extract other compressed files.
