Hmm, perhaps that's why he was tolerated there for a while. Can't have any spare heirs now can we? Though in hindsight, I bet they wish they did.

Well, I'd imagine any Septim is better than anarchy, if it means the provinces keep their loyalty. The council could always hope to control the heir. But you're probably right, even if he did have kids, the empire would have got rid of them long ago. It would make for a crap story too, like a second Martin. But I still think a relative will be a puppet emperor, but without the septim name, nobody in Skyrim or Morrowid is going to be loyal.

Obviously, the Empire will turn into an anarcho-syndicalist commune. Honestly, it's what would make the most sense after Oblivion.

isn't that usually when there is more than one person who has a semi-legitimate claim, like the who;le Wolf Queen thing?

I both think and hope we'll get a civil war as minor lordlings from every province, Cyrodiil to Morrowind to Valenwood, each tries to get the big job. Helseth definitely wouldn't mind getting that Title, I think the camorans miss having as much power as they used to, and let's face it, half the accidental children of hokers in the Imperial City are probably Uriels.

This is gonna be fun.

Well, there was the disinheriting of Uriel IV's heir Andorak in favor of another shirttail Septim, Cephorus II, on the grounds that Cephorus was closer kin to the Septims. Cephorus was such a :spotted owl: that the Camoran Usurper found easy support.

Isn't it true that there are other http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/nu-hatta_nu-mantia.shtml each associated with one of the Towers? Someone able to equip one of those items would have a compelling case for legitimacy, if any could be found. I doubt the selection magic of the Amulet of Kings could be duplicated by modern adepts. Actually, I'm not really sure that the other Stones have that kind of magic associated with them. Hmmm....

Say, that's a reason for the next installment of TES to be in Skyrim: a search for the Stone of Snow-Throat. heh.
