I'd be fine with just a marking feature on my map. If they had Chalk, I'd want it incorporated into the magic system... You know... like draw out a complex circle/symbols and stuff that would keep out undead and Daedra. :shrug:

I'm not even asking for anything like a ward or something, which would indeed be magic.
It's just chalk. No, really, just chalk. Just something I can see on the cave walls. That's all. Really.
After I realized there were no unique artifacts to be found, and that there was only generic equipment, I stopped exploring caves in Oblivion unless actually sent there. At least until I got SI, at which point I found one big treasure-heavy cave and used that.
Morrowind tho... Morrowind was an adventurer's paradise, and chalk was MEANT for it. If Skyrim's like morrowind chalk might be useful.
There was exactly the mod you are hoping for in Morrowind, symbols, markers, normal and daedric text. Surely if it were possible in Morrowind it could be doable in Skyrim.
It was a tradition to write "Plumbus" on the walls in Pelagiad.
