Tes4Edit doesn't recompile scripts?

Used T4E to edit some scripts. However, when I change the text, the compiled data is shown as identical to the master.

Bingo. Only the CS will error-check and compile scripts.

Dammit. If the CS wasn't crashing on save, I'd be using it already.

Are you using Vista or Win7? Do you have Oblivion installed outside of the default folder?

I had problems with the CS on Win7 x64 until I put it on XP SP3 compatibility mode.

I was having similar problems with any file write, including just trying to edit description fields without even loading. I didn't need to activate compatibility mode, just Run As Administrator.

If you mean XP SP2 (on Vista 64), then no go on that one.

My account is administrator.

Should also say that the mod has two esp masters that are esmified by Wrye Bash.

I've always had problems witht the CS crashing when editing files with more than one master.
What you can do is use TES4EDIT to Copy as New Record the script into a new ESP. Then open that ESP in the CS, edit, compile and save. Open the files in TES4EDIT and add the old ESPs' masters to the new one, change the Form ID of the script back to the original and copy it back.
That's a method thah has worked for me, at least.

I am not even sure that the account being administrator is enough...

Edit: You may as well try the run as administrator thing; however, on user reported that changing UAC-related settings triggers the turning on of the UAC again. I do not know if the "turning on" is isolated to the folder or not. I did not ask for details, as the problem being dealt with was...I don't remember, need bed...

Looks like I've solved it with the old 'move a rock in the Tamriel worldspace' trick.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

You can't have an ESP dependent on another ESP and avoid crashing the CS without editing the Tamriel worldspace, as proven by...
