The Champion of the Nine is the Emperor

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:29 am

Whenever anyone suggests that the PC should be able to take the throne, they are shouted down. But in the Prophet's opinion, the knight who defeated Umaril seems to fit the bill.

The Al-Esh is near! Mother of the Empire! She weeps for fallen Cyrod and all her children that call it home for truly she is the mother to us all! Citizens, the Queen of Stars asks you: where is her issue? Where are the men who can walk in her steps? In whose blood has the dragon taken purchase? Alessia! Reman! Talos! They cry for blood akin to theirs to rekindle the dragonpact!

He is calling for a hero worthy of the Covenant, someone to walk in the footsteps of the dynasties. And if he is calling for you, and you, who received the blessing of Talos, succeeded, then doesn't the scripting on the Amulet of Kings need adjusting?

Who will match the deeds of Sir Amiel and his companions when they smote the Wyrm of Elenglynn to recover the Cuirass of the Crusader?

Or maybe you are only a champion, doing the wetwork for something greater, and your relation is to Pelinal, not his mistress.

I don't recall using teleportation, and yet there I was thinking he spoke about the great spirits that drove the elves out. Alone. Naked.

King are weak and fat demagogues that rely solely on the skills of others to maintain their power. Its firs that the true hero is the one behind the scenes, working for the prestige of another, always in the shadows. The Trinimac to Martin's Akatosh, the Arctus to his Septim etc etc

However, your idea is not truly out of place, as is often the case, the sidekick has his day and replaces his master. The CoC DID do this in Shivering issues, so it is not far-off to think something like this in his other endeavors.

Ok, screw Calaxes Junior, I vote for the guy who killed Umaril. Bonus if he also became the COC.

But then, the player character would no longer be a letter written in uncertainty. Because, as the Emperor, the Champion of the Nine would have to continue to be recorded in TES history.

Like the Daedra the Player is an agent of change, the arrival of a Hero should be a dreaded thing because it heralds a time of change and conflict. For what is a Hero without a Quest?

People only want to be Emperor because they want to go on a power trip, but really the emperor is more of a figurehead, albeit one with a veto, who just agrees with the council and takes the flak when they mess it up (or conversly the glory when they get it right). I dare say that part of the problem with Tharn impersonating the Emperor was that he didn't bother to keep the egos in check on the council rather than abusing any imperial privileges (and busting up the Battlespire).

If the Hero was also the Emperor he/she wouldn't have the freedom to do any of the fun stuff, imagine having followers like Farwill all the time, who insist on getting between you and the creeps, because their lives are less important than the mighty Emperor....

Not really. The Emperor is actually a pretty transcended person, in general. There's more to the lousy city we get in Oblivion in the actual lore.
