I am lost and having trouble finding the exit....and staying alive. I am a breton spellsword. I can only cast one shock before I have to rest again but that is impossible with all the enemies around. Where is the exit?

Yeah, while I was waiting for a reply I hitched on youtube looking for daggerfall videos and found one of the beginning. don't think I would have ever thought of that on my own.

no, that I needed to get on the throne and flick the switch.

Did ya know ya can climb with ya own hand instead of using the throne?

There's also a back route that doesn't require scaling that wall at all.
