Dos Box commands

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:24 am

Ok, I finally got Arean to run by reading what people did for Daggerfall. Where it said Daggerfall, I put in Arena instead and now it works. I even did the command so where all I have to do is just double click on my dosbox and it will start arena. The question I am asking now, is what should I put in so I don't have to cycle through by hitting Ctrl F12 to speed up the game. This is what I tried, but it dosn't seem to work I still have to hit F12 to speed up the game.

# Lines in this section will be run at startup.

mount c c:\dosgames -freesize 1000
mount d c:\dosgames\dfcd -t cdrom -label Arena
c:
cd\arena
arena

CORE DYNAMIC
CYCLES 15000

So do the Core Dynamic and Cycles 15000 be in small letters instead of caps? should I try the cycles to 12000 instead? What would the proper coding I should be using?

Also what does -label mean? Just curious in know what it does since I am going by what I read for Daggerfall.

-label names the CD ROM disc, which is useless here, you can remove that whole line. The -freesize 1000 switch isn't needed either.

Anyway, the "CORE DYNAMIC" and "CYCLES 15000" lines are correct and adjust the speed for you, the problem here is that you launch arena before those lines come in effect, while you should run those lines before running Arena.

Thank you so much again Freddo, you are great. You make me able to enjoy the game even more.

Why don't you set core to "auto" and cycles to "max"?

Why don't you set core to "auto" and cycles to "max"?

Core auto won't do anything cause Arena isn't a "protected mode" game.

Cycles max will cause the game to run too fast on many modern computers, so it's better to limit the amount of cycles.

Wow I am learning quite alot here. What is it ment by "protected mode"? I guess this is why I loved windows so much. Point and click, I didn't have to worry about Dos commands and what not ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protected_mode

Pretty much all later DOS games were protected mode software, but Arena isn't.
