Guild Wars

Davor, a couple of minor points that I'll add: the game continues two years after the Searing, not one year. The two most valuable dyes are black and white, which you should sell rather than use. You can use the other colors to dye your armor, but you get to look at it in a window first to see how well it works -- dyes look different depending on the material, cloth versus metal for example. You can also mix colors by putting two or more in the window to see what results if they're mixed. The Xunlai storage chests are available after the Searing and are a big help for storage, including storing crafting materials. (The money to buy the Xunlai chests is game money, not real-world money; you can buy additional storage space ("panes") within the chests for real-world money at the NCSoft game store, but I haven't bothered.)

When you salvage or buy runes, you can put them on your heroes' gear as well as your own. You can't modify your henchmen, though; heroes aren't available until you play Nightfall or Eye of the North. (You can then take the heroes to other games such as Factions and Prophecies, though, when you hit level 10 if I recall correctly.)

Have fun with the game(s).

Thanks everyone again for all the tips and answering my questions, I appreciate it alot.

I see one problem with the game. You need lots of time of uninterupted time. It's hard to do when you have kids. I tried playing, and had to stop to deal with the kids. Too bad we can't pause the game to deal with these issues. I tried playing a game, only having to stop playing after 15 minutes because the kids need something or what not. But so far, I am liking the game alot, and keep dieing alot as well. :)

You're right about this. I haven't joined a guild, and one of the advantages of playing with heroes or henchmen is that they wait for me with inhuman patience when I'm called away. Some dungeons I end up putting off to another day because I know they will take an hour or two to get through. You learn where you can leave your party for a while so that they don't get killed by patrolling mobs while you're AFK.

There was a funny day not long ago when I was AFK during the Nightfall mission "A Time for Heroes", with my party heading for the coast, and my wife started my player character running off in no particular direction. :) I freaked out when I came back to the keyboard, thinking I'd have to replay the mission, but luckily the heroes in his party kept him alive.

Actually with 7 heroes, it's the mobs that should be worried about patrolling..cause heroes most of the time roll them. In fact, in a lot of areas you could just let your heroes do everything and you can do something else...just have to move forward.

Oh haha you're syronj from GWGuru aren't you? Thought I recognized your name.

Yes, I'm a noob on the unofficial GW forums (they don't have an official forum). It's kind of impressive that there are a lot of GW players who have been playing since the start, 2005 or so. I'm far from knowledgeable though, since I started last year.

Cool, I go by garethporlest18 over there. I'm one of those who have been around since 2005, though I don't think my forum account has been.

I am a bit interested to play this again and especially to see how it runs on my laptop. ANet deleted my guild though for my inactivity but fi I can remake it we could turn it into the unofficial forum guild. I think this was tried before but people were too spread out and it ended up not working. What do you guys think of this? I could probably buy the hall and any important NPCs right away if anyone is interested.

I've played since release (pre-release actually I played the betas), but I'm not on much any more. I never got into factions so I stopped playing for a while, had a binge with EotN and recently been a bit more active. It's a good game, and I do like getting svcked into it now and again. I'd play it a lot more if I had my brother and old guild to play with again.

I actually know very little about the game now it's moved on so much since when I first played it.

Where is this unofficial GW forum?

What do you mean an "Unofficial forum guild'? Sounds like a good idea.

www.guildwarsguru.com and www.guildwars2guru.com

I think he means a guild for Elder Scrolls fans. I'm not planning to join a guild myself. The release date of Guild Wars 2 hasn't been announced yet, but it's going to be great IMO.

As for what has changed since Eye of the North, it includes the ability now to put seven heroes in your party instead of henchmen -- heroes can be modified, while the older bots known as henchmen can't be modified. The Dervish profession was recently buffed. ArenaNet is still releasing Guild Wars content while everyone's waiting for the sequel Guild Wars 2 (which will take place 250 years after the first Guild Wars games). This newer content includes the War in Kryta (requiring you to have finished "Prophecies") and Hearts of the North (which sees Gwen and Keiran get married; their descendant is one of the characters in Guild Wars 2). There will be more "Factions" missions coming out, called the Winds of Change but requiring you to have finished Factions.

Pffft. Dervishes. They're practically invincible as it is anyways.
