Looking for a Armor/clothing replacer.

Greetings all.

The last time I went on a major mods search/update I was looking for a mod that basically allowed me to use some of the great custom armor's out there but retain the stats of my prefered armor which maybe more balanced with OMOBS for the game I am using. So basically I can look to me as tho I am wearing say an overpowered or no stats at all Ranger style armor given out of a chest from a mod, but in reality Im wearing something I earnt like an appropriate level light armor which owuld be better balanced to my overhauls and other mods.

I know it may not be so immersive (maybe some would find it more immersive depending on the armor they want to use) but fighting through a dungeon as a battle mage while looking like your wearing a robe when your really heavily armored in your plate would be alot of fun, even killing bandits near the beach while wearing a swimsuit with out giving up any of your usual equipments stats would be good for a laugh.

My modding knowledge is extremely limited but I cant imagine it'd be to hard to equip the usual gear for the stats but have the game render alternate clothing onto the charactor. I havent put any thought into how NPCs would alter their reaction to you if at all but something like this would open up so many of the awesome custom armors without making them overpowered or stat free and thus effectively useless for a finely tuned game wether they're intended to be used in battle or not.

I found something similuar to what I needed but it was more an outside game app that involved alot of fussing around and installing each armor twice into 2 different locations. Does anyone know if this is available in game or if there is already a mod to do this with a simple hotkey ?

Regards

For robes there is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1877. You can wear whatever you want, and once you put your robe on all the equipment beneath it will go invisible (stats will be kept). An easier way instead of having to screw around with altering paths and renaming files.

I was thinking something more on the fly, ingame. Load the ESP and you can do what ever you feel like that day instead of making those 'hard coded' changes to the armor in the CS.

That mod looks like its on the right track but by the sounds of it it just throws the robes over what your allready wearing to 'hide' them when it talks about clipping issues, so it would likely be adding the stats of the robes aswell instead of replacing.

Experienced modders may have to correct me here, but...

What you are asking for seems to be a function that would change the visual appearance only of regular leveled list armors. I think it is not so simple to do. You would have to find the leveled list mod you like (or already have and like) and go into the files and change the associated meshes and/or textures. If you got that far, the change would only apply to that piece of armor. So, for instance, any time you found, say, leather greaves, they would look like, say, daedric greaves. That would be the case throughout the game, too. No more leather greaves to look at ever.

I don't see how you can teach the game to decide when the right moment to give you the cool-looking armor is.

Otherwise, you could modify the stats of existing armor mods that place the armor in leveled lists. That's probably the way to go.

EDIT: ...or use that cool mod linked in the post above mine. :P

Thank you! That looks like it does exactly what i was hoping for!

I will try it out tomorrow after I get some sleep.

Are the changes done with this mod permanent tho (save bloat?) I'd hate to change something and not be able to restore it.

I've used this mod since it first came out and never had an issue with "save game bloat". Maybe if I used it on hundreds of items it would happen- but if I felt the need to overhaul the stat of hundreds of items, I would use the CS instead. ;)

My main goal was for something ingame, no metting with stats in CS, just a few clicks in my Inv menu and have stats applies from item X and item Z rendered on my char. The linked mod looks like it'll do exactly what im looking for my its description.

If I recall, there is a set (pair?) of OBSE functions that allow you to get the mesh location of an object and set a new location thus changing the appearance of the armour without altering any of its data (someday when I'm bored I was planning to make a cool suit of armour based on this that changes depending on your surrounding/character). It seems like it would be very simple to implement this as a spell or item or activator that allows you to replace one armour's mesh with another's. This would possibly still cause the issue with armours that exist in more than one place (in that it would change them all), but if you were either altering an armour which only you possess or don't mind making changes to every armour that uses the same form it seems very simple, and if I had more time in the near future I would probably offer to try to make it (or if I didn't loathe the CS so much <_<).
