I may be toeing the line here, but what just happened? I feel as if I missed a chapter in MW modding history reading through this thread....

I was on vacation and I have little idea myself. Funny I don't even seem to have an opinion on this myself. But hopefully this will diffuse what ever happened.

That whole thing was so ridiculous. It's done now, the compilation was removed, justice has prevailed. But suddenly, modders seem to be acting paranoid, clutching their work to their bosom and suddenly acting afraid to release anything for fear of "theft." I'm sorry, but it's stupid. Any attempt at stealing a modder's work and claiming it as one's own (which was NEVER THE ISSUE- he never said the mods were his own, and he just made a mistake in not including a complete credits list) will inevitably fail, because the community will throw a fit, as we've seen here, and the person who committed the theft will be doomed to Internet obscurity (the most heinous punishment imaginable for some people) and the world will move on.

As I said, I "toed" the line. I know we are not supposed to discuss closed threads and such things. I am glad to know what exactly went down though.

I will take this opportunity to state that GHF has the same anti-plagiarism policy that PES does. Anybody is welcome to post or promote a mod they created, and anybody has the option of contesting any available work as being plagiarized. I will look into all such accusations, taking them very seriously. If it is deemed that something was posted without permission of the actual derivative author's explicit or implied permission, all traces of the offending mod will be removed from GHF. This holds for all aspects of a mod, not just textures.

These things always like a pendulum swing fully to one side. than in about a year or so they get to the opposite side and back and forth we go over the years.

At one point we get into the me, me, all mine stage. Then in about a year or so. We move to the whole sale repacking of everyone's work stage.

The middle is where we are most creative.

I know we are not supposed to discuss closed threads and such things.

Exactly.

We are going through one of those awful "drama" phases here on the forums and the whole thing is infectious in a really bad way.

I'm going to lock this up now and ask for people to spend a little while cooling off on the issue, otherwise we just get more and more threads on the subject and more and more anger and then more and more warnings.

Seriously, though, haven't we had enough threads on the subject by now? Between Oblivion Mods and Morrowind Mods, I must personally remember at least thirty threads on the subject of modders' "rights" and users' "rights", etc.

There is no reason whatsoever that texture ownership should be treated any differently than any other type of modding, and as such this is simply a repetition of the flamewar I closed yesterday.
