Sudden Change in Potion Textures?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:31 am

Okay, so for a long time I have been using Better Potion Bottles to make my in-game potions look awesome. I really love the shiny silver bottle with the bright pastel colours showing through, and have only just realized how much I appreciated that. Anyway, I started up Oblivion to actually play for the first time in about a month today, and all my potions were solid coloured and generic looking (it may have been the vanilla colour set, I'm not sure). I looked in OBMM to make sure the mod was still activated, and I couldn't find it (I would guess that I accidentally removed it at some point). I figured that was no problem and went onto TESNexus to get it again (the original wasn't posted, but http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14347 looked close enough). So I OMOD-ify that, make it overwrite all of its conflicts (with OOO, CorePC's Vibrant Textures, and UOP), and start up Oblivion, and yet they still look the same. I can't figure out what's causing the problem! The only mods I've installed recently are Bomret's Normal Maps and Book Belts, and I already removed Book Belts. I have changed my Bashed Patch (new BOSS masterlist tagged new inventories, factions, stats, etc to import), but I can't figure out why my potions look like crap. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

As I said, I overwrote every texture conflict, so it's got to be an esp redirecting the meshes or something, right?

Add the "Graphics" tag in Wrye Bash, choose it under "import Graphics" in the bashed patch.

If that's not enough, move it under OOO.

The mod is just a replacer; it has no esp so I can't add the graphics tag (which is why I'm confused by the problem)

The problem, then, is that OOO does include path changes for the potions. You'd need an OOO compatible version of the replacer, or change the file paths to match OOOs ones.

If it's a vanilla replacer, you could try something wacky and add a Graphics tag to Oblivion.esm. I have no idea if that would work.

Or you'll have to use TES4Edit to make an override mod.

Damn, okay, thanks, I'll try to get on that...
...I still can't figure out how things went wrong, though... could I have caused it to start screwing up by changing any bashed patch import settings?

I dunno if it's of any relevance, but I think that if you Import Graphics from Warcry it makes your healing potions change shape and look solid red. Presumably to make them look more like in Diablo. I dunno if it does anything to the rest of the potions though. I only noted that my healing potions looked different. I thought it was ugly, so I unticked Warcry from importing graphics into the bashed patch and rebuilt it, and the problem was resolved.

Dunno if it helps, but I see that you've got Warcry in your mod list and you mentioned rebuilding your bashed patch before the problems started.

The mod you linked says that it is OOO compatible. It should have installed to, and overwritten all the DDS files in the RCPotions folder.

Did it do that?

It's actually OOO that does it? Thought it was Warcry...

You deserve a hug. Thank you for catching that because I certainly wasn't going to :D
...now I just have to fix all the files I overwrote and............

Edit:
Hold up, I'm investigating now.

It does not come with an esp it is pure texture replacer

you did install the rcpotion folder right..that is one that would overwrite OOO textures with BPBR

Showler beat me to it..

I prefer MEOS potion Replacer myself...load the esp after OOO.esp and tag has grpahics..

Also, this one: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27534

and this one: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28492

Have esp files and can be imported, which will bypass your problem.

I recently set my patch to import Warcry Graphics, right now I'm rebuilding without, I'll know in a minute if that was causing most of my problems/

Yep, it replaced the correct files, it seems that all the Health and Magic potions were being redirected elsewhere and a few the others (fortify health and something else at least got messed up in this process)

Thanks for the suggestions on others! I'll check now if this worked, and if not I'll jump on one of those (actually I may do that anyway, hmmm <_<).

Fingers crossed ---

Okay, yes, removing WarcryEV.esp graphics fixed my problem, not I just need to fix the files I shouldn't have overwritten from UOP and stuff (at least I'm assuming that's why a few of the potions are showing up pure purple as if there's some kinda mesh/texture issue). Thanks for your help mates, and I may switch to one of those other mods... hmmm

Side effect of Having Warcry tagged with graphics. he potion we noticed this during testing ..or Showler did...

If you tag OOO with Graphics that should fix the problem if you are loading warcry before OOO.esp fcom..

else potion replacer with esp is needed to overwrite Warcry potion changes. ..

Have you tried using this instead? http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4828

It uses the same potion bottle textures and it does a few other simple things too.

I just untagged the Warcry graphics changes; that shouldn't cause any long term problems, right? I don't really want an esp, but I don't really care either, so if it's actually going to in some way improve the quality of my game to use a different one, so be it :P

Ah, I hadn't seen that before. Anyway, it looks good, but I already have the potions looking how I want again, I already have the renamed potions, inebriation effect, and a different set of beer/wine retextures, and I don't really want to alter anything Vampire-related whatwith the upcoming Unholy Darkness mod, so leaving only the Potion of Exploration changes, I think I'm happier with this :P Thanks though, mate ;)
