Region release date

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:53 pm

Hi,

Brink's release date was recently pushed up a week, making the official release date in North America May 10th. However, I'm currently residing in Costa Rica and my steam client reports the release date to be May 12th [which would be the date for preload in Europe]. My issue with this is that CR is in North America [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_america ], so why am I being given a european release date?

Thanks

As I'm pretty sure plenty of people will tell me to go to the steam forums/support: release dates on steam are set by the publishers, not steam

... You know, I'm not sure. It should be the 10th for you. Maybe they haven't gotten around to it yet....

You're not.

European release date is 13th.

You're getting Australian release date. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia

Which is the day before mine. Lucky.

It's probable that Costa Rica has a fixed 'standard" release date that differs from the US/Canada standard (which is what most people mean when they say "North America" - even though many of us know that's not all there is to it), which is why your release date for the game is also different. i don't know enough about the country to say that for certain, but it would be my best guess.

Actually it's about 36 hours before.

Australia's time zone is AHEAD of Europe, not behind.

I live in New Zealand, which is another 2 hours ahead of Australia, and right now, we're almost midday on Thursday, where Europe hasn't finished Wednesday yet.

while costa rica is now part of the US, it is still on the other side of mexico, still technically a different region. i mean come on, Alaska (where i live) and Hawaii are part of the US, and not just recently, yet most online stores tack on ridiculous shipping costs, simply because we are farther away. i can understand Hawaii more cause its across the ocean, but still. if something can be shipped from the east coast to the west coast (or vice versa even) for free, or next to nothing, then why can't i get the same deal for Alaska? like, i am looking for an entertainment center right now. cant find anything even halfway decent in the stores here, and all the online stores ive been to either wont ship one here, or want to charge me more for shipping then for the product itself.

Im living in australia and steam is saying it will unlock on the 13th. Are you sure that the release for Australia is different to the European release?

http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/playstation/games/159029/news/136835.20110412.Brink-release-moved-forward/ says it's 12th in Aus, and I've read it somewhere else as well, but don't have the other link.

You're thinking of Puerto Rico. . .

True, but in my case I'm not in Europe =D

I'm thinking there is: if you check steam you'll see the date set to a day earlier of your region's release date if you've already bought the game

For those of us who bought through D2d, I don't think steam will show that. Doesn't SD have to meet with Valve and agree on a preload system? I hope they do.
