Question about archiveinvalidation.txt

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:35 am

I am installing a hi-res map mod for my pipboy and wonder about the instructions for the archiveinvalidation.txt file. I had thought that the current procedure was to remove the archiveinvalidated.txt folder from the fallout 3 folder. I have an Archiveinvalidationivalidated! Bethesda File Archive in my FO3 folder, and am not sure if I should copy the archiveinvalidated.txt file from the Color Hi-Detailed map and icons mod RAR file.

"Installation:
1. Extract files , place folder Textures to Fallout 3/Data directory .
2. Check bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 in FALLOUT.INI at Fallout 3 folder in MY Documents/my games
3. Check if Archiveinvalidation.txt is already in Fallout3 folder, if found edit and add lines:

textures/interface/worldmap/wasteland_1024_no_map.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_cave.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_city.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_encampment.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_factory.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_metro.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_military.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_monument.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_natural_landmark.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_office.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_ruins_sewer.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_ruins_town.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_ruins_urban.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_settlement.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_undiscovered.dds
textures/interface/icons/world map/icon_map_vault.dds"

If you already use ArchiveinvalidationInvalidated or the version included with FOMM, there's no need to worry about using the text file. It won't cause any problems if you copy that text file over but it is also not needed.

OK, so with this hi-res PIPBOY map mod, I just need to paste the textures folder into my data folder then? I have done that, but didn't past the archiveinvalidation.txt file for the reasons I just posted.

Yeah, just paste the textures folder in and you can leave the archiveinvalidation.txt file out.

If you're using FOMM, and you should be, just copy the texture files over to your Data folder, then hit the Toggle Invalidation button twice. Once will turn it off and the second time will turn it back on again with the changes you made registered. There's no need to bother with any text file, FOMM will take care of everything for you.
