We don't know what happened yet because they[gamesas] are creating the lore as we speak. The only thing for sure is "the king of Skyrim has died and the sons of Skyrim are at war with each other."

Go to UESP if you want to read about Skyrim lore up to this point.

Your best option is to visit the imperial library or uesp.

thanks for the links. i couldnt really find any info on it and it seems that there isnt really any. im guessing that it was a treaty of some sort since skyrim even successfully invaded hammerfell and high rock.

The Nords became allies of the Imperials, they were not conquered.

The basic starting points:
http://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-first-edition-skyrim
http://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-third-edition-throat-world-skyrim

Might I also suggest http://www.imperial-library.info/content/tamriel-timeline for an overview of history in general?

Well they joined forces with the slave races in Cyrodiil to fight the Ayleids. They both would've been beaten if Akatosh didn't close Oblivion and cut off the Ayleids infinite armies.

Well depending on who you believe they eaither were beat by Tiber Septim and then joined under the peace or were impressed by him and joined anyways. regardless the Nords would lose to the Cyrodilics in the War of the Red Diamond I believe.

I think you're confusing the Alessian Rebellion with the storyline of Oblivion. The former had no daedric hordes and was won without Akatosh (unless you count Pelinal as partly Akatosh, which I know you don't ;))

I dimly remember reading or being told this story at some point in Oblivion, though. Ayleids used daedra to bolster their armies, Alessia made some sort of deal with Akatosh, which caused him to seal Oblivion from Nirn. This was why the Amulet/dragonfires were so important to ending the Oblivion Crisis, IIRC.

Yeah thats right i read that too. It completely changed my opinion on Ayleids. I thought they were just a happy go lucky race spread across Cyrodil til i found out there backstory. I'm glad there gone. Gone and dead....

im a bit confused...........if the ayleids could summon hordes of daedra from oblivion what was stopping the nords and the slave races from doing the same thing? mages routinely conjure daedra all the time. why would mehrunes dagon choose to help the ayleids anyways.......if he was going to choose sides woudlnt it have been in his interest to support a slave revolt to weaken everyone through a long protracted war?

The Ayleids were better mages, plain and simple.
